ALAN JOHNSON WINS FIFTH OF THE SEASON AT BREWERTON SPEEDWAY ON HOFMANN HOT HAUS/SYRACUSE.COM NIGHT
BREWERTON, NY…Defending Brewerton Speedway DIRT Big Block Modified Track Champion Alan Johnson claimed his fifth feature win of the season last Friday on Hofmann Hot Haus/Syracuse.Com Night. Johnson took the lead away from Chuck Hebing on lap 22 and the driver of the Elaine James Motorsports entry would lead the rest of the distance in the 35-lap affair.
Tom Sears jumped out to the early lead at the start of the Hofmann Hot Haus/Syracuse.Com DIRT Big Block Modified feature from the pole starting position. After five laps Sears continued to lead and was being chased in the top five by Chuck Hebing, Frankie Caprara, Billy Decker and Scott Prentice. Sears would lead the opening nine laps of the main event.
Hebing took the top spot away from Sears on lap 10. At the halfway point of the main event Hebing continued to lead and was being chased in the top five by Johnson, Sears, Craig Terrell and Prentice. Racing in positions sixth through tenth respectively at the halfway mark included Tim Fuller, Chuck Bower, Ryan Phelps, Bob McCreadie and Tim McCreadie.
On lap 22 Johnson was finally able to take the lead away from Hebing after several laps of racing side by side. Once in front Johnson pretty much had the field-covered enroute to another victory. Tim McCreadie made a tremendous late-race charge to finish second. McCreadie was sixth on lap-31 and worked all the way up to second after starting from the 20th position. Hebing had to settle for a strong third place finish with Fuller and Sears completing the top five finishers.
John Behron won his fourth Dwarf Car feature race last Friday night. Tod Simons, Alan Barker, Mark Cooper and Don Fenner completed the top five feature finishers behind Behron in the 26-car starting field. Behron took the lead away from Simons on lap 14 and led the rest of the distance in the 20-lap event.
Sean Lias claimed his eighth IMCA Modified feature win of the season last Friday night. George Valenti, Pat Pontello, Bill Anderson and Dale Caswell followed Lias across the finish line. Lias took the lead away from Valenti on lap 12 and led the rest of the distance in the 20-lap affair.
Chuck Powelczyk won his seventh Four Cylinder Stock feature of the 2003 season last Friday night. Rick Angle, Lorrie Herbert, Russ Wassner and Eric Mier finished in positions second through fifth respectively. Powelczyk took the lead away from Angle on lap 13 and led the remaining two circuits for the victory.
Racing will continue this Friday at Brewerton Speedway with the DIRT Big Block Modifieds, IMCA Modified Empire State Series, Dwarf Cars, Four Cylinder Stocks and the Four Cylinder Enduro racers all in competition.
