ALAN JOHNSON WINS FOURTH IN A ROW ON ALLTEL HOLIDAY SPECTACULAR NIGHT
BREWERTON, NY…Alan Johnson is clearly having his career season at Brewerton Speedway. Johnson claimed the win last Friday night in the Alltel 35-lap DIRT Modified feature in front of a jam-packed holiday weekend crowd. It was the fourth straight win at the D-shaped DIRT Demon for the driver of the Elaine James owned car. The victory was worth $1,700.
Pat Ward took advantage of the outside pole starting position to take the early lead at the start of the Alltel DIRT Modified feature. After ten laps Ward continued to lead and was being followed in the top five by Jimmy Phelps, Tim Fuller, Scott Prentice and Johnson. Ward and Phelps battled several laps side by side racing for the lead.
The early stage of the race found the top six cars grouped together racing for the lead. Drivers could use any lane, on the multi-groove, dust free track. Ward was the official race leader for the first 15-laps. Phelps led the talented field on lap 16. Ward came right back the next circuit to regain the top spot.
At the halfway point of the 35-lap main Ward was followed in the top five by Phelps, Johnson, Fuller and Billy Decker. Prentice, Chuck Bower, Tim McCreadie, Chuck Hebing and Tony Buffa raced in positions sixth through tenth respectively at the halfway mark. It appeared for a while that Johnson’s win string would stop at three straight.
But on lap 19 Johnson moved from third to first in one move. Johnson split the cars of Ward and Phelps going into the first turn. Decker moved into the second spot on lap 27, but the defending Brewerton Track Champion was never able to make a race out of it. Johnson and Decker crossed the finish line one and two. Bower and Tim McCreadie made late race charges to finish third and fourth respectively. Prentice completed the top five feature finishers.
Sean Lias entered victory lane for the fifth time at the conclusion of the IMCA Modified feature last Friday night. Rob Keller, Billy Dunn, Joe Price Jr. and Bob Ridgeway completed the top five feature finishers behind Lias. On lap 15 Lias took the lead away from Keller and led the rest of the way in the 20-lap event.
Tod Simons won his third Dwarf Car feature of the season last Friday night. Darren Forbes, Scott Nash, Matt Magner and Kreig Heroth followed Simons across the finish line. Simons took the lead away from Dan Williams at the halfway point of the 20-lap event and led the rest of the distance.
Chuck Powelczyk won his first Four Cylinder Stock feature of the season last Friday night in a photo finish over Mark Warner. Powelczyk and Warner were followed by Roger West Sr., Tim Koch and John West. Powelczyk took the lead away from Koch on lap 11 and went on to the victory in the 15-lap affair.
Racing will continue this Friday at Brewerton Speedway with the DIRT Big Block Modifieds, IMCA Modifieds, Dwarf Cars, Four Cylinder Stocks and Four Cylinder Enduro racers all in competition. One on One Spectator Races will also be contested. Race time is set for 7:30 p.m. For more information please call (315) 668-6906 or 668-RACE. On line please go to www.brewertonspeedway.com.
