BOB McCREADIE WINS CAREER NUMBER 500/BOWER TAKES NIGHTCAP/ALAN JOHNSON TRACK CHAMP AT BREWERTON

BREWERTON, NY…Bob McCreadie claimed his 500th career feature win in front of a capacity crowd last Friday at Brewerton Speedway. McCreadie’s win came in the rain- delayed event from August 16. Chuck Bower won the regular 35-lap feature, which was his second victory of 2002 at the D-shaped DIRT Demon. Alan Johnson won the season long battle by claiming the Brewerton Speedway DIRT Big Block Modified track title.

Bob McCreadie jumped out to the early lead at the start of the rain-delayed Oswego Asphalt DIRT Modified feature from the outside pole starting position. McCreadie set a fast pace from the start and after five circuits was being chased by Jimmy Phelps, Pat Ward, Tim Fuller and Chuck Hebing. A long stretch of green flag racing allowed McCreadie to open up his lead looking for the milestone victory.

The first caution of the race came on lap 19. The caution erased the lead McCreadie had built. Tim Fuller restarted in second with Phelps, Ward, Hebing and Alan Johnson following. Fuller started to pressure McCreadie right away while Johnson moved into third on lap 23. The final 12 circuits was a three-car battle for the win. Fuller and Johnson continued to pressure McCreadie, but it didn’t do any good.

Bob McCreadie was determined to record his 500th overall feature win at Brewerton Speedway and he did just that. The victory for the legendary Watertown, N.Y. driver in the Kinney Drug Stores DIRT Modified was worth $1,700. Fuller, Johnson, Chuck Bower and Chuck Hebing completed the top five feature finishers. Only two cautions slowed the entire event.

Mike Payne was the early race leader at the start of the regular 35-lap Oswego Asphalt DIRT Modified feature. Payne, the 2002 Brewerton Speedway DIRT 358 Modified Track Champion, led the opening two circuits. Scott Prentice took the top spot away from Payne on lap three. After five laps Prentice continued to lead and was followed in the top five by Payne, Pat Ward, Bob Holland and Bower.

After several laps of trying to do so, Bower took the top spot away from Prentice on lap 19. On several occasions Prentice looked to regain the lead, but Bower wasn’t willing to give it up. The Lansing, N.Y. driver recorded his second win of the season at the D-shaped DIRT Demon in the Currier Plastics DIRT Modified. The victory was worth $1,700. Prentice, Fuller, Billy Decker and Johnson completed the top five feature finishers.

Sean Lias returned to the winners’ circle at the conclusion of the 20-lap IMCA Modified feature. Lias earned the 2002 IMCA Modified track title. Joe Price Jr., Bill Anderson Sr., Pat Pontello and Mike Chilson completed the top five finishers behind Lias. Lias took the lead away from Billy Dunn on lap12 and led the rest of the way in the 20-lap event.

Jeff Isabell won the rain delayed Dwarf Car feature from August 16. It was his first career victory. Matt Magner, Tim Burdick, Tod Simons and Mike Mattice completed the top five feature finishers behind Isabell. Isabell took the top spot away from Magner on lap 17 and led the rest of the way in the 20-lap event.

Dan Williams claimed the win in the regular 20-lap Dwarf Car main event. Tod Simons, Dan Boyce, Kevin Doll and Matt Magner completed top five feature finishers behind Williams. Simons earned the 2002 Dwarf Car track title. Williams took the top spot from Magner on lap12 and led the rest of the distance.

Jeff Herbert won the Four Cylinder Stock main event. Roger West Sr. earned the 2002 Four Cylinder Stock track championship. Brian Evenden, Chris Smith, John West and Mike Watkins completed the top five finishers behind Herbert. Jeff Herbert took the lead away from Lorrie Herbert on lap three and led the rest of the way in the 15-lap contest.

Racing will continue this Friday at Brewerton Speedway with the DIRT Modifieds competing in a Victoria 200 Weekend All Star Qualifier. The top finishing Big Block and 358 Modified will both earn an All Star position. The IMCA Modifieds, Dwarf Cars, Four Cylinder Stocks and the Four Cylinder Enduro racers will also be in competition. Action will start at 7:30 p.m. For more information please call (315) 668-6906 or go to www.brewertonspeedway.com.
