Gill and Moore take titles, MacIntyre and Wilson grab features
BROCKVILLE-Lee Gill and Adam Moore claimed 2002 Brockville Ontario Speedway track titles on Friday night. While Gill cruised to his third straight Modified championship at the BOS, Moore’s place in the history book was in doubt right to the end of the 20 lap Sportsman feature.
Kyle Wilson did everything he could to overhaul Moore for the point lead. Wilson steadily worked his way through the field taking over the lead with two laps to go when Pernie Banks had an engine go sour. Wilson needed to pick up 17 points on Moore going into the race. The youngster from Elgin managed to prevail picking up a position on the final restart to end the campaign with a 3 point lead over the Joyceville Cadet. Jason Potter put in his best run of the year to end up second followed by Cole Dingwall, John Mulder, Scott McCue and Moore.
Gill, who basically clinched the title a week ago didnt allow himself to back into a 3rd straight crown. He and Boomer MacIntyre were locked in a great six lap battle for the top position. MacIntyre would not turn the wheel wrong throughout the 30 lap race to go wire to wire for his first Modified victory. Gill was second in front of Stephane LaFrance, Mark Hitchcock and Chris Herbison.
Novice and Rookie points races continue for another two weeks. Roch Aubin closed up a few points on leader Danielle Legault in the Rookie class with a victory. Aubin used a smoking race car to hold off Legault in the closing laps. Brad Kirkland was third.
Ryan Poole came home a winner in the 15 lap Novice feature. Poole showed real poise in a duel with points leader Kees VanWinden cruising home after VanWinden slid off the track in turn 4 with 3 laps to go. Shane Ray took the number two spot, with Shawn Hodge, VanWinden and Kurtis Lee rounding out the fast five.
