BOB McCREADIE POWERS TO SECOND WIN OF THE SEASON ON HOFMANN HOT HAUS/ALLTEL NIGHT
BREWERTON, NY…It was a McCreadie again in victory lane at Brewerton Speedway last Friday night. On this occasion, it was veteran Bob McCreadie, who returned to the winners’ circle in front of a large crowd on Hofmann Hot Haus/Alltel Night. McCreadie fought the lead away from a hard charging Chuck Hebing and then held off the late race challenge of Alan Johnson for the $1,700 win in the 35 lap main event.
Hebing raced out to the early lead at the start of the Hofmann Hot Haus/Alltel DIRT Modified feature from the outside pole starting position. Hebing set a blistering pace from the start on the tacky and dust free surface. After five laps Hebing was being followed in the top five by McCreadie, Steve Hulsizer, Frankie Caprara and Scott Prentice. The first half of the season at Brewerton has not been kind to Hebing as the talented driver was looking to turn his year around.
At the halfway mark of the fast paced DIRT Modified feature Hebing and Bob McCreadie continued to race in the top two positions. Racing in positions third through tenth at this stage of the race in order included Hulsizer, Tim Fuller, Johnson, Prentice, Tim McCreadie, Billy Decker, Caprara and Chuck Bower. It was on lap 21 when Bob McCreadie was able to take the top spot away from Hebing.
On lap 24 Johnson moved into second spot and started to close in on Bob McCreadie. The duo raced in two distinct grooves, but at the end Bob McCreadie held the upper hand. It was the second win of the season for the Kinney Drugs DIRT Modified team this season at the D-shaped DIRT Demon. Johnson had to settle for second with Decker making a late race charge for third. Fuller and Hebing completed the top five feature finishers.
Tony Buffa won his first ever IMCA Modified feature last Friday night. Buffa held off the late race challenge of John Hill for the win. Mike Chilson, Bob Bradt and Tommy Paige completed the top five feature finishers. Buffa took the lead away from Chilson on lap 13 and went on for the win in the 20 lap event.
Chris Smith was another first time feature winner last Friday night. Smith claimed the win in the Four Cylinder Stock feature. Dave Myrto, Harvey Calkins Jr., Roger West Sr. and Bob Whipple completed the top five feature finishers behind Smith. Smith took the lead on lap 10 from Todd Williamson and went on for the win in the 15 lap affair.
Buffa also claimed the win in the Dwarf Car feature event. Buffa passed Ken Gamlen on the final lap for the win in the 20 lap race. Gamlen had to settle for second. Troy VanAllen, Matt Magner and Joe Garafolo completed the top five feature finishers. It was Buffa’s eighth win of the season.
