MOORE THRILLS CROWD WITH FIRST CAREER MODIFIED VICTORY AT BROCKVILLE
BROCKVILLE-What was a rookie season to forget, turned around in a hurry for Elgin’s Adam Moore. The 2002 Sportsman track champion stunned a star studded field on Friday as he captured his first 358 Modified feature ever at Brockville Ontario Speedway.
Moore who has been through four engines this season started on the outside pole for the 30 feature. He would battle back and forth all the way with his close friend Todd Stewart. Stewart almost got by a couple of times and even hit the rookie hard once in turn 4. However, the youngster would not be rattled and held on for that elusive first Modified feature win. Chris Herbison continued his excellent second half with a third place finish followed by Bill Gill and Jeff Sykes.
Lance Willix dominated from start to finish in take the 20 lap Sportsman main event which featured some extra circullar bumping from time to time. John Mulder was a distant second in front of Kyle Dingwall, Randy Earl and Tim Alton.
Veteran driver Dave Austin scored his first victory in over a year taking the 15 lap Novice event. Again, Austin started up front and held off a few challenges from Brett Horner who settled for second best. Sheldon Hoogwerf, Jason Riemersma and Peter Stapper made up the rest of the fast five.
The Rookie feature was in doubt until the final turn on the final lap with Dave Blue taking the victory over a determined Kurtis McPhee. Stuart Mullin was third, Brad Kirkland fourth and Don Hall in fifth.
The Midstate Vintage Car Club paid their annual visit to the fast quarter mile at Brockville with Pat Sonnenberg taking the checkered flag in the 50’s and 60’s class. Scott Gates won the 15 lapper for the 70’s division.
The 2003 season closes out next weekend with a double header, the Super DIRT Series for 358 Modifieds returns for a 100 lap event on Friday, September 12th along with the regular classes. Gates open at 5pm with time trials getting underway around 6:30 pm. Racing begins at 7:30 pm. This is followed on Sunday afternoon, September 14th by the traditional Monster Enduro. Race time is 2pm.
