HURRICANE STORMS THROUGH BROCKVILLE IN SEPTEMBER FOR SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR

BROCKVILLE-Steve Paine had to be talked into trying to defend his Super DIRT Series for 358 Modifieds September race winner title at Brockville Ontario Speedway. The Waterloo, NY driver they call the hurricane blew through the fast quarter mile dirt oval leading the final 20 laps to win the 100 lap September event for the second straight year.

Paine acknowledged in victory lane, that he wasn’t the best car on this night however. Brockville regular Stephane LaFrance started on the outside pole and led the first 80 laps before a left rear tire went down. "Stef just has absolutely no luck," said Paine, "There’s no way I was going to catch him if that tire didn’t go down.

Another pair of Brockville regulars were pleased with top three finishes. Jeff Sykes scored an impressive second place run followed across the finish line by Bill Gill. Pete Bicknell recovered from going off the track around the midway mark to finish fourth, while fast qualifier on the night Justin Haers was fifth.

Redwood NY’s Ben Tucker scored his 10th Sportsman feature win of the year blasting past Randy Earl around the midway point of the 20 lap event. Tim Alton ended up second followed by Dave Wilgosh, Kyle Dingwall and Kurtis Lee.

Shane Ray won his heat and then started from the pole and led all 15 laps in a wild and wooly Novice event. Andrew Hennesey who rolled his car a week ago, drove his new car into a second place finish in front of Bill Code, Brett Horner and Dave Austin.

After three years of trying, Joseph Banks of Portland scored his first ever feature win in the 10 lap Rookie race. Brad Kirkland, Kurtis McPhee, Billy Woodward Jr and Stuart Mullin were second through fifth respectively. The race included a wild quadruple roll over by Jesse Perrin. Perrin was not hurt when his car left the track in turn 1.

The Speedway closes out the 2003 season on Sunday afternoon, September 14th at 2:00 with a Monster Enduro including a 150 lap 8 cylinder event and a 50 lapper for 4 cylinders with big prize money up for grabs.
