BILL GILL WINS SECOND, EARL FIRST SPORTSMAN WIN EVER AT BROCKVILLE
BROCKVILLE, PO - Bill Gill saw an opening and went for it on Friday night at Brockville Ontario Speedway. The bold move on a lap 19 restart paid off as the Plessis, NY pilot grabbed his second feature win of the year. Randy Earl meanwhile used brute speed to power his way to the lead and grab his first Sportsman feature victory.
Jeff Marshall and Adam Moore swapped the lead back and forth in the early going of the 30 lap Modified event. Marshall was in the top spot when his car got loose on the restart. Gill running in the third spot quickly went for the space between cars and took the lead. Chris Herbison put in a valiant effort to try and catch Gill but had to settle for second in front of Lee Gill, Mark Hitchcock and Todd Stewart.
Earl scorched the track turning laps under 16 seconds as he blew by early leader Kyle Dingwall. The former track champ in the Pro Stock division continued to dominate as he raced to his first feature win since making the jump to Sportsman at the beginning of the 2002 season. Dingwall was second with John Mulder, Ben Tucker and Tim Alton making up the rest of the fast five.
It looked like there would be a first time winner in the Novice division as well. Steve Billing’s bid for glory came to an end when he scraped the wall on the front straight on the next to last lap. Ryan Poole was there to capitalize as he roared by to take the 15 lap event. Robin Perrin was second at the finish in a mad scramble followed by Jason Riemersma, Dave Austin and Peter Raabe.
Billy Woodward Jr. picked up the lead early and romped to a relatively easy win in the 10 lap Rookie race. The Norwood NY driver was followed by Bob Rau, Stuart Mullin, Kurtis McPhee and Don Hall.
The Speedway will be back in operation on Friday Night, August 8th at 7:30 pm for full race program featuring all four divisions along with the always popular spectator bag races.
