LaFRANCE WINS AFTER NEAR DISASTER AT BROCKVILLE
BROCKVILLE-Stephane LaFrance flirted with disaster but managed to come home victorious on Friday night at Brockville Ontario Speedway. The Brockville pilot drove his car off the track just past the midway point of the 30 lap Modified feature but still managed to hold on to the top spot.
LaFrance had pulled out a big lead over Boomer MacIntryre when he went a little too high through the tricky turn 3 corner. LaFrance slid off the race track and onto the grass, but managed to regroup and get his car headed in the right direction and back onto the course in time to stay in front of MacIntryre. LaFrance was never really challenged the rest of the way. Lee Gill was second followed by MacIntryre, Mark Hitchcock and a late charging Todd Stewart.
Redwood NY’s Ben Tucker won his second straight Sportsman feature. Tucker took advantage of a couple of miscues by drivers in front of him to grab lead and then withstood a late challenge from Randy Earl. Lance Willix, Tim Alton and Davey Wilgosh rounded out the fast five.
Peter Stapper powered into the lead on a lap 8 restart and went onto win the 15 lap Novice race. Ryan Poole was closing when the checkered flag dropped but settled for second in front of Roger Bushey, Sheldon Hoogwerf and Charles Barkley.
Ashpalt driver Dave Watchorn of North Gower took his first victory ever on the dirt in the 10 lap Rookie event. Watchorn benefited when leader Martin Walter spun in turn 4 on the next to last lap. Kurtis McPhee, Bob Ray, Brad Kirkland and Walter were second through fifth respectively.
The Speedway will be back in operation on Friday Night, July 11th at 7:30 pm for full race program plus the always popular Powder Puff race
