BILL GILL'S LUCK FINALLY CHANGES AT BROCKVILLE
BROCKVILLE - Bill Gill’s luck finally came around on Friday night, and the result was his first ever Modified feature win at Brockville Ontario Speedway. Gill took the lead early and avoided the gremlins and incidents that have plagued him all season to beat defending track champion Lee Gill to the finish line.
Bryan Rogers took off to the early lead until going off the edge of the track in the first turn and handing the lead over to Bill Gill. The Plessis, NY driver was never really challenged the rest of the way although he admitted in victory lane after he was wondering if something was going to go wrong. Lee Gill was unable to mount a late challenge despite 3 restarts in the last 9 laps. Stephane LaFrance edged Randy Gaudet at the finish line by inches to claim third, with Jeff Sykes tearing through the field from his 20th starting spot to finish fifth.
Redwood NY’s Ben Tucker blasted past Dave Wilgosh on lap 8 and went the rest of the way for a win in the 20 lap Sportsman main. Points leader Randy Earl was second followed by Lance Willix, Wilgosh and Kyle Dingwall.
The closest finish of the night came in the 15 lap Novice feature as Robin Perrin of Spencerville survived a final lap final turn challenge and bump to score his first victory of 2003. Sheldon Hoogwerf was in hot pursuit in second with Peter Stapper, John Simmons and Roger Bushey rounding out the fast five.
Billy Woodward Jr. is the car to beat when he keeps it in one piece in the Rookie class. He did just that in beating Kurtis McPhee to the line in the 10 lap event. Garry Osczakiewicz was third in his first appearance followed by Don Hall and Brad Kirkland.
The Speedway will be back in operation on Friday Night, July 4th at 7:30 pm for full race program plus the always popular spectator bag race.
