GILL REGAINS FORM AT BROCKVILLE
BROCKVILLE-It had been over a month since Lee Gill visited victory lane at Brockville Ontario Speedway. A tacky racetrack was apparently just what the doctor ordered for the three time defending track champion as he powered to his third win of the season on Friday night.
Gill took the lead just before the halfway mark and actually turned his fastest lap of the race getting around the quarter mile in 14.3 seconds on lap 26 of the 30 lap event. Stephane LaFrance was unable to mount a serious challenge despite closing up on the number 7’s back bumper on a few restarts. Jeff Sykes held off a late challenge from Bill Gill for third while a nifty move on the last lap gave Mark Hitchcock, a fifth place finish.
Jason Riddell captured his second Sportsman feature of the season, starting up front and leading all 20 laps. Ben Tucker, looking for his third win in a row, charged through the field to finish second followed by Kyle Dingwall, Jason Potter and rookie Kees VanWinden who scored his very first top 5 finish in a Sportsman.
Dave Austin held the lead in the Novice feature for 14 and a quarter laps. Sheldon Hoogwerf got past Austin coming off turn 2 on the final circuit with an inside move and picked up his third win of the year. Austin settled for second. Peter Raabe, Peter Stapper and Shane Ray rounded out the fast five.
Kurtis McPhee continues to expand his lead in the Rookie points standings with yet another victory. Stuart Mullin was second in front of Joseph Banks, Jesse Perrin and Brett Hartin. Mary Brunner of Athens claimed victory in the special 5 lap Powder Puff race.
The Speedway will be back in operation on Friday Night, July 18th at 7:30 pm for full race program plus the always popular Kids tire race
