DINGWALL AND THREE FAMILIAR FACES IN VICTORY LANE AT BROCKVILLE
BROCKVILLE, ONT ... There was just one fresh face in victory lane after the second night of the 2003 racing season at Brockville Ontario Speedway. Kyle Dingwall of Brockville captured his first win Friday night in the 20 lap Sportsman event.
It looked like Jason Riddell was headed to his first ever win, but with 4 laps remaining he drifted high in turn 2. Dingwall quickly took advantage diving by on the inside and then holding off last week’s winner Ben Tucker for the win. Lance Willix was third followed by Riddell and Jason Potter
Lee Gill took over the top spot with 9 laps remaining with a power move to the outside of turns 1 and 2 and cruised from there to his second win of the year. Mark Hitchcock settled for second in front of early leader Stephane LaFrance, Randy Gaudet and Jeff Sykes. 22 Modifieds were on hand this night.
Kees VanWinden had a tougher time this week as well in prevailing over a field of 25 cars. VanWinden grabbed the lead on the backstraight just before a caution flag came out and went on to the 15 lap Novice win. Early leader Brett Horner had a great run going until a rollover took him and another car out for the night. Roger Bushey was second with Jason Riemersma, Larry Kenney and Don Scales making up the rest of the fast five.
Kurtis McPhee grabbed his second in a row in the Rookie 10 lap finale getting around second place finisher Bill Woodward Jr. with 4 laps remaining. Don Hall was third in front of Dave Blue and Brad Kirkland.
The Speedway returns to action with the first of two visits this season by the always popular Empire Super Sprints in addition to the usual full race program featuring all four divisions presented by Swiffer on Friday Night, May 30th at 7:30 pm.
