Gill wins 8th of season at Brockville

BROCKVILLE-Even though he is closing in on his third consecutive Modified track championship, Lee Gill is showing no signs of slowing down. Gill scored his 8th feature win of the season on Friday night at Brockville Ontario Speedway.

Gill had to work for this one finally taking over the lead from Mark Hitchcock with 8 laps to go after a long duel with the Kingston driver. Stephane LaFrance mounted a late challenge as well pulling to within a car length of Gill on the final lap but unable to finish off the job. LaFrance was second, Hitchcock third followed by Chris Herbison and Todd Stewart.

Lance Willix dominated early in the 20 lap Sportsman race then beat Kyle Dingwall to the finish line by a little over a car length. Adam Moore jumped into a borrowed race car from Tim Vanbrocklin and brought it home third to retain the points lead. Cole Dingwall and Tim Alton rounded out the fast five.

There was a fresh face in victory lane in the Novice division as Brockville’s Shawn Hodge scored the win after a couple of interesting restarts around the midway point of the race. Roger Bushey, John Simmons, Dan Foss and Art Brown were second through fifth respectively.

Brad Kirkland scored his second Rookie feature win of the year. Kirkland took over the top spot in the late going when Roch Aubin’s car erupted in a ball of fire. Aubin was able to get out unharmed and the fire was limited to the engine. Rosco Garreau was second followed by Danielle Legault, Glen Dorie and Martin Walter.
