Night to remember for Herbison and Dingwall at Brockville

BROCKVILLE-Friday night, August 9th, 2002 will go down as special night for a pair of Brockville drivers. For veteran Chris Herbison it was the night he scored his first Modified victory at Brockville Ontario Speedway. For rookie Cole Dingwall, it was the night he scored his first victory period.

Herbison was fast all night at the BOS romping to an easy win in his heat and taking the lead early in the 30 lap feature. Herbison led until lap 25 when two time defending track champ Lee Gill blasted by on the outside. However, track officials ruled that Gill had jumped the final restart and penalized him one position. That gave the victory to Herbison and his old dependable sportsman motor. Stephane LaFrance was third followed by Chico Dingwall and Mark Hitchcock.

The 17 year old Dingwall showed incredible poise behind the wheel of his Sportsman machine, leading all 20 laps in the main event. He drove a consistent line lap after lap not allowing John Mulder to get close enough to even attempt a pass. The entire Dingwall clan from grandma and grandpa to friends and supporters shared the youngster’s roof dance in victory lane. Adam Moore, Chad Phelps and Jason Potter made up the rest of the fast five.

There was a third Brockville face in victory lane as Don Hall held off a furious final race challenge from points leader Danielle Legault in the rookie class 10 lap event. Roch Aubin was third in front of Glen Dorie and Brad Kirkland.

The 15 lap Novice event was a caution filled, carnage filled battle of survival. Winner Kees VanWinden picked his way through the mishaps to score the win. He actually inherited the top spot when leader Shawn Hodge went to the pits with mechanical problems. Dave Austin was second in front of invader Mark Rinaldi. Brian Hutton and Shane Ray were fourth and fifth respectively.

next Friday night features the second appearance by the Empire Super Sprints to the BOS. There will also be a full race program in all four divisions including the Modifieds. The green flag drops at 7:30.
