LaFrance finally evades bad fortune, wins first of year at Brockville
BROCKVILLE-Stephane LaFrance has had one of the fastest cars every week at Brockville Ontario Speedway. His luck on the other hand has not been quite so evident. LaFrance might have turned the corner on Friday night by making some luck of his own.
LaFrance stormed through the field in the early going and then holding off a determined challenge from Lee Gill to score his first Modified feature win of 2002 at Brockville. However, it was an eventful last lap as LaFrance came up on lapped traffic on the final circuit ducking down low in the final sprint to the finish to nip Gill by a car length. Mark Hitchcock was a strong third, followed by early leader Randy Gaudet and Scott Parliament.
The 20 lap Sportsman feature featured a repeat of the last race run as Adam Moore won his second straight followed by Kyle Wilson and Kyle Dingwall. It looked like Dingwall might be the one to beat on this night as he held the lead past the halfway point. Moore charged back through traffic to take the lead. with Wilson in hot pursuit. The Joyceville Cadet tried the high groove on the final couple of laps to get past but had to settle for second again. Dave Wilgosh put in his best run of the season to finish 4th with Rich Hall in the fifth spot.
There was a fresh face in victory lane in the Novice division. Rookie Peter Stapper did a masterful job in a wheel to wheel duel with points leader Kees VanWinden to grab the 15 lap event. Roger Bushey, Dave Austin and Peter Raabe rounded out the fast five.
The only dominating performance of the night was put in by Danielle Legault as she romped to an impressive win in the Rookie feature. Rosco Garreau was second followed by Roch Aubin, Don Hall and Brad Kirkland.
Mechanics races went to Todd Raabe in the Novice and Kurtis McPhee in the Rookie class respectively. The BOS returns to action next Friday night with a full race program in all four divisions. The green flag drops at 7:30.
