Willix takes Sportsman Syracuse Qualifier at Brockville
BROCKVILLE-Lance Willix will be able to celebrate the fourth of July holiday in Syracuse, New York if he wants. The Theresa NY driver powered through the field to take the special 30 lap Sportsman feature on Friday night at Brockville Ontario Speedway.
Willix took the lead just after the midway point using the outside groove to his advantage to grab a spot in the Sportsman Firecracker event in Syracuse next month. Early leader Jason Potter settled for second after a solid lead evaporated when the caution came out on lap 18. Pernie Banks, Kyle Dingwall and Adam Moore rounded out the top 5.
Lee Gill celebrated his birthday in style. Gill who turned 34 Friday picked up his third Modified feature in as many tries this season. Randy Gaudet however gave Gill all he could handle especially off a restart with 6 laps remaining. Chris Herbison was a solid third followed by Scott Parliament and Chris Jones.
KeesVan Winden continued a good week for himself. VanWinden followed up at win Sunday at Cornwall with his first Brockville novice triumph since making the jump from the Rookie class for 2002. The race was red flagged after a lap 2 quadruple rollover involving Jeff Kemp. Kemp was uninjured in the mishap.
Rosco Garreau of Alexandria picked up the win in the 10 lap Rookie event over Danielle Legault and Roch Aubin. Next week features a twin bill with a regular race program in all four divisions on Friday night followed by the Kanes Towing Father’s Day Enduro 200 on Sunday afternoon at 2.
