Gill both lucky and good on Friday night at the BOS
BROCKVILLE-Two time defending track champion Lee Gill said in victory lane that he would rather be lucky than good. Friday night at Brockville Ontario Speedway, he was both in scoring his second 358 Modified victory to start off the 2002 season.
Invader Jason Barney appeared to be well on his way to victory with two laps to go. He and Gill had been battling wheel to wheel for a few laps with Barney taking the advantage and pulling out a bit of an advantage. However, that went out the window on the next to last lap when Barney had to take his car off the track in turn 3 to avoid a lapped car. Gill slipped under to take the lead on the white flag circuit. Barney tried to come back one more time, only to get mixed up with a lapped car again in the same spot. Gill went on for his second win in as many tries while Barney ended up 8th.
Pat Ward recovered from an early race 6 car pileup on the front straight to grab second spot. Mid race leader Chris Jones was third followed by Mark Hitchcock and Scott Parliament.
Rich Hall showed that patience can pay off. Hall waited for early leader Dave Wilgosh to make a mistake then quickly passed him on the inside of turn 2 for the lead and cruised to the win in the 20 lap Sportsman event. Kyle Wilson was second, Wilgosh settled for third with Kyle Dingwall and Pernie Banks rounding out the fast five.
A wild and wooly Novice event went to John Simmons. Simmons took over the top spot when the two leaders came together in the second turn and then stayed out of trouble for the rest of the way. Brett Horner was a solid second in front of Earl Simmons, Dan Mitchell and Roger Bushey.
Roch Aubin took the 10 lap rookie feature by a huge margin over Jamie Eglinton and Joseph Banks. Brockville Ontario Speedway returns to action, on Friday night, May 31st with the third annual Foster and Wilson Memorial presented by Tide featuring the always popular Empire Super Sprints. The green flag drops at 7:30.
