Gill begins quest to three-peat with win in Brockville opener
BROCKVILLE-Lee Gill began his quest to win his third consecutive Brockville Ontario Speedway track championship in style on Friday night. Gill took the lead on lap 13 and led the rest of the way to take the season opening 50 lap 358 Modified feature on Rockway Pontiac Buick night.
Brian MacDonald started on the pole for the main event and led the opening 7 laps before giving way to Mike Adderly who was making his maiden voyage at the quarter mile Brockville track. Adderly would make only one mistake all night as he slid high on lap 13 giving the lead to Gill who had quickly moved from his 10th starting spot to challenge for the top spot. Adderly who fell back as far as sixth at one point did manage to rally back to finish second followed by Ben Tucker, MacDonald and Jeff Sykes.
Adam Moore grabbed the 20 lap Sportsman feature. Moore went around Kyle Wilson on lap 7 and was never challenged the rest of the way. Rich Hall driving the same car that Randy Gaudet piloted to the track title in 2001 was second followed by Wilson, former Pro Stock champ Randy Earl and Darren Catallier.
The most competitive race of the night came in the 15 lap Novice race. Peter Raabe tried every trick in the book but couldn’t find away around Roger Bushey. Bushey crossed the line a car length in front of Raabe, with Dave Austin, John Simmons and Kurtis Lee rounding out the fast five.
It was ladies night in the Rookie class. Danielle Legault dominated from start to finish winning by almost a half a lap over Roch Aubin, Glen Dorie, Brad Kirkland and Joseph Banks.
The BOS returns to action next Friday night with a full race program in all four divisions. The green flag drops at 7:30
