Joyceville Cadet wius first ever at Brockville

BROCKVILLE-.It was an emotion charged night on Friday night at Brockville Ontario Speedway. It was the night that the son of a local racing legend scored his first ever feature win. In his second season, teenager Kyle Wilson of Joyceville picked up the top spot in the 20 lap Sportsman feature.

The Joyceville cadet, son of Rick Wilson, the legendary Joyceville Jet showed a combination of patience and speed taking the lead from Lance Willix on lap 10 and then maintaining his composure in the late going as multi time winner Randy Gaudet closed in. Wilson took the victory by 3 or 4 car lengths and the celebration was on. After a hug from mom, Wilson showed more poise thanking all his sponsors and those who had made the big moment come true. Gaudet was second followed by Willix, Pernie Banks and Jeff Ciglich.

Their was also a new face in victory lane after the 30 lap Modified feature. Mark Hitchcock scored his first win of the year at Brockville with some nifty moves in traffic. Hitchcock trapped leader Stephane LaFrance behind a lapped car on lap 21 and led the rest of the way for the triumph. The move capped off a torrid battle between the two cars around the midway point on a track that had three good grooves for drivers to use. Lee Gill was second at the checkered with LaFrance, Jason Barney and Ben Tucker rounding out the top 5. The race was delayed twice by multi car accidents including one on the first green flag that took out the cars of Brian MacDonald, AJ Doerr and Steve Bilow. All three were extensively damaged but the drivers all managed to walk away under their own power.

The Randy Earl express keeps on rolling. The Brockville driver captured win number 9 at the BOS taking the top spot on a lap 5 restart and leading the remainder of the 15 lap Pro Stock event. Denis Gauvreau was second just in front of Mitchell Jock. Billy King and Todd Raabe were fourth and fifth respectively.

John Mulder expanded his lead atop the Novice points standings. Mulder cruised to an impressive win in the 15 lap feature. Dave Austin was second followed by John Simmons, Peter Raabe and Roger Bushey.

The best field of the season was on hand for the 10 lap Rookie event. The result was a familiar one as Kees Van Winden picked up another feature win. Van Winden picked up the lead on lap 5 and withstood consistent challenges from Chris Tremblay who finished second. Rosco Garreau, Rock Aubin and Danielle Legault made up the rest of the fast five.

Brockville Ontario Speedway returns to action with a full race program in all five divisions, plus the annual visit of the Midstate Vintage Stock Car Club next Friday night, August 10th. The green flag drops at 7:30.
