TIM McCREADIE EDGES BOWER AT BREWERTON ON COORS LIGHT NIGHT
BREWERTON, NY...Tim McCreadie edged Chuck Bower for the 35 lap DIRT Modified feature win at Brewerton Speedway last Friday on Coors Light Night. McCreadie and Bower battled for the lead lap after lap in a tremendous battle. Both drivers thrilled the crowd in using the entire track in looking for the well deserved win. The victory was the third of the season for the second generation driver at the D-shaped DIRT Demon. McCreadie earned $1,700 for the win in the Finch's Motorsports DIRT Modified.
Jim Larock jumped out to the early lead at the start of the Coors Light DIRT Modified feature from the outside pole starting position. Larock led the opening three laps of the main event. Frankie Caprara took the lead away from Larock on lap four. Caprara would lead until lap five when Chuck Bower took command. Bower wasted no time in moving up from the seventh starting position.
At the halfway mark of the feature Bower continued to lead with McCreadie now up to second. Caprara, Alan Johnson, Chuck Hebing, Billy Decker, Scott Prentice, Pat Ward, Steve Hulsizer and Tim Fuller raced in positions third through tenth respectively at this stage of the race. It was at this time that Bower and McCreadie really started to battle with Caprara, Johnson and Decker right behind.
McCreadie finally took the lead away from Bower on lap 28 entering the third turn. The race was still on, however. At the end McCreadie edged Bower for the thrilling win. Decker worked up to third at the finish with Johnson and Caprara completing the top five feature finishers. Caprara turned in his second straight strong performance against the talented field.
Tony Buffa won his third IMCA Modified feature of the season last Friday night. The Buffa team rebounded after having their engine claimed the week before. Mike Jeffries, Bob Bradt, Brian House and Larry Bezner completed the top five feature finishers behind Buffa. Buffa took the lead away from Jeffries on lap 17 and went on for the win in the 20 lap contest.
Ken Gamlen won his first Dwarf Car main event of 2001 last Friday night. Gamlen was followed by Troy VanAllen, Darren Forbes, Tony Buffa and Scott Nash. Gamlen took the lead away from Forbes at the halfway point of the 20 lap race and led the rest of the distance.
Chris Smith won his second Four Cylinder Stock feature of the season last Friday night. Smith won out over Brian Evenden, Roger West Sr., Bob Whipple and Ray Rainville. Smith took the lead away from Rainville on lap three and led the rest of the 15 lap event.
NOTES---Jerry Curcie was the winner of the 20 car Four Cylinder Enduro feature...The chase for the 2001 DIRT Modified track title remains close with Billy Decker owning a slight lead over Alan Johnson...The entire show was completed despite rain surrounding the Brewerton area...Action continues this Friday at Brewerton Speedway on Family Autograph Night presented by Coca-Cola and Kinney Drugs. In race competition will be the DIRT Modifieds, IMCA Modifieds, Dwarf Cars and Four Cylinder Stocks.
