Van Brocklin and Tremblay put an end to streaks at Brockville
BROCKVILLE-Tim Van Blocklin and Chris Tremblay did something that only one other person has done in June, win a race in their classes. Van Blocklin and Tremblay did that in the Sportsman and Rookie classes respectively on Friday night at Brockville Ontario Speedway.
Van Brocklin’s task was to knock off Randy Gaudet who had won every Sportsman feature this season. He got a helping hand from Gaudet in the early stages of the 20 lap feature when the points leader skidded off the track on the back straight. Van Blocklin took over lead on lap 5 and had built a good lead as the race headed into the final laps. With 2 to go, Gaudet worked his way in the second spot but that didnt give him enough time to catch the Watertown driver. Pernie Banks, Adam Moore and Lee Miller rounded out the top 5.
Tremblay was the one to finally knock off Kees Van Winden in the rookie wars. Tremblay led all 8 laps and won going away in his Chevy. Van Winden also managed a second place run in front of Mark Radbourne.
Defending track champ Lee Gill took his 3rd Modified feature win of the season. Mark Hitchcock grabbed the lead on the first lap with a nifty inside move down the back chute that took him from third to first. Brian MacDonald then came through the field on took over the top spot with a turn two pass on lap 17. Gill and MacDonald then started a good battle with the Lefargeille NY driver taking over the lead by working the outside cushion and putting in a 15.7 second lap on the 24th circuit. MacDonald was second, Stephane LeFrance, Hitchcock and Todd Stewart rounded out the top 5.
Randy Earl continues to dominate in Pro Stocks. Earl breezed to better than a half lap win over Greg Hale, Todd Raabe, DJ Smith and Sheldon Hoogwerf. John Mulder of Spencerville took Novice honours in a caution filled affair taking the lead on lap 5 and leading the rest of the race. Shawn Hodge was second and followed across the line by Joh Simmons, Art Brown and Robin Perrin.
The next event at the BOS comes up next Friday night with a regular race program and mechanics race. The green flag drops at 7:30.
