Tucker’s heatbreak brings Gill triumph at Brockville

BROCKVILLE-It appeared for 26 laps that Ben Tucker was going to win his first Modified feature on Friday night at Brockville Ontario Speedway. However, things went horribly awry for Tucker and the result was the fourth feature win of the season for defending track champ Lee Gill.

Tucker had taken the lead in the 30 lap feature on lap 7 and opened up leads as large as half a straightaway and had them strink to a car length over Chico Dingwall and Gill. However on lap 26 heading into turn 1, the 2000 Sportsman champ had his car get sideways, Tucker tried to correct but it was too late, the Troyer chassis spun allowing Gill who was running third at the time to scoot around the outside and take the lead and subsequently the win. Dingwall was second followed by Chris Jones, Todd Stewart and Mark Hitchcock.

The two Randy’s continue to dominate in their respective classes. Randy Earl took his 5th feature win of the year in the Pro Stock 15 lap event easily outdistancing Greg Hale and Todd Raabe. Randy Gaudet meanwhile returned to victory lane after a one week absence as he blasted his Bicknell around the quarter mile in the 20 lap Sportsman event. Gaudet was clocked under 16 seconds on one lap, an outstanding time for Modified let alone a Sportsman car. Rookie Kyle Dingwall continues to improve with a second place finish in front of Tim VanBlocklin, Greg Bauder and Pernie Banks.

Dave Austin, who missed last week due to hand injury, showed no ill effects on the speedway as he took the 15 lap Novice event holding off a charge from John Simmons and Peter Raabe. Rosco Garreau who has been making the BOS a regular stop the past couple of weeks took the 8 lap Rookie event over Chris Tremblay and Kees VanWinden.

The next event at Brockville Ontario Speedway comes up next Friday night, July 13 with all 5 regular classes in action. The green flag drops at 7:30.
