DANNY JOHNSON COMPLETES SUPER DIRT SERIES CANADIAN SWEEP
BROCKVILLE-Danny Johnson completed a very profitable three nights on Canadian soil on Tuesday night at Brockville Ontario Speedway. The Rochester, New York driver made it a three peat in Canada, and four in a row as he captured the Coca Cola 100, the fourth event in this year’s Super DIRT series for 358 Modifieds.
Johnson started 15th in the field of 31 starters and took over the lead from Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y. on lap 40. He led the final 60 laps to follow up wins at Cornwall on Sunday and Granby, QC on Monday. McCreadie was able to close in on Johnson in lapped traffic but couldn’t get close enough to make a move on the Sweetner’s Plus 27J. Tim Fuller of Edwards, N.Y. was nipping at McCreadie’s heels in third at the finish followed by pole sitter Frank Cozze of Wind Gap, Pennsylvania and Leicester, NY’s Vic Coffey. The top Brockville regular was Jeff Sykes of Edwards, N.Y. who started 26th and finished a strong 8th on the lead lap.
A total of 43 Modifieds were on hand to compete in the event with all but 7 of the 31 starters running when the checkered flag fell in a relatively caution free event which featured lots of side by side action.
The Pro Stock ran a special 50 lap feature as well with Randy Earl of Brockville taking the victory. Earl battled Mark Therrien of Alexandria for lap after lap. Therrien finally looped his car in turn 4 on the 48th lap allowing Earl to speed away for the win. Lee Ladouceur of Alexandria was second with Denis Gauvreau of Hull in third. Therrien’s spin resulted in a 9th place finish.
The Super DIRT series will return to the BOS on Friday, September 15ht for a second 100 lap event. A busy week of racing at Brockville continues with a regular show featuring the Modifieds, Sportsman, Pro Stocks and Novices on Friday night at 7:30.
