PRESTON AND LAFRANCE BOTH WIN THEIR FIRST OF 2000 AT THE BOS
BROCKVILLE-A couple of first time winners in the year 2000 found the way to victory lane Friday night at Brockville Ontario Speedway. Ray Preston of Romulus NY and Brockville’s Stephane LaFrance picked up the checkered flag in the Empire Super Sprint and 358 Modified features.
Preston started on the outside pole of the 20 lap feature and led the entire distance picking up a guaranteed starting spot for the ESS-URC showdown during Super DIRT week in Syracuse in early October. Bill Coffey of Caledonia NY was second just in front of a hard charging Rick Wilson of Joyceville. Wilson delighted his home track crowd with an impressive run from 15th starting position up to third.
LaFrance, who has had a horrible 2000 season due to various problems went by Ron Evoy of Brockville just after a lap 4 restart and led the rest of the way in the 30 lap Modified battle. Lee Gill of LeFargeville NY all but clinched the track title with a strong run through the field to finish second with Jeff Sykes of Edwards, NY rounding out the top 3. Two time Sportsman champ Randy Gaudet of North Augusta was a solid 5th in his first ever run with the Modifieds.
Lance Willix of Theresa NY took the lead on lap 7 and withstood a late challenge from Ben Tucker of Redwood NY to take the 20 lap Sportsman event. Adam Moore of Elgin was third. Randy Earl of Brockville took advantage of a small mistake by Mark Therrien of Alexandria in the late going to win the 15 lap Pro Stock event. Earl Simmons of Star Lake NY led all the way in the 10 lap Novice go around.
