LAFRANCE WINS 50 LAP MODIFIED FEATURE
Stephane Lafrance flew to victory in the Auto Parts Extra 50 lap Modified feature at Cornwall Motor Speedway. The Brockville, Ontario driver grabbed the lead on lap 40 when Laurent Ladouceur, the leader, had trouble and went into the pits.. Ladouceur had the gained the lead on lap 16 and looked untouchable but it wasn’t to be (he finished 6th).
Dave "the Slip" Heaslip made a last lap dash but settled for 2nd. Lee Ladouceur finished 3rd just ahead of Kayle Robidoux. Mark Hitchcock rounded out the top 5.
The victory, Lafrance’s 4th of the season at Cornwall, gave him a spot at the season ending champion series in Syracuse. "The crew worked hard to set the car up and the extended cautions (laps 41, 43, 44) didn’t help but we were able to weather the storm," said Lafrance.
That quote was a little forshadowing as the sky opened up following the 20 lap Pro Stock feature.
"Bulldog" Dave Bissonette won his 5th Pro Stock feature by holding off a charging P.J.Peters. Marc Therrien, Joey Ladouceur and John Lazore rounded out the top 5. As Bissonette was being interviewed in the winner’s circle, the rain came forcing officials to end the night.
The Duke Stock and Rookie features, originally scheduled for tonight will be added to the program on Sunday, August 10th. The Race for the Children goes next week. Children’s charities will benefit from money raised through various track functions throughout the year.
Next week marks the final race in the Mr.Radiator series for the Pro Stocks. They run a 50 lap feature. Modifieds, Dukes and Rookies Stocks will run regular features.
