Heaslip first two time Modified winner in 2002 at Cornwall

Dave Heaslip was a man on a mission on Sunday night at Cornwall Motor Speedway. The "Slip" was at his dominating best as he went wire to wire in the 30 lap Modified feature, become the first two time winner in the premier division in 2002.

Heaslip had his Bicknell chassis turning laps of 13.7 seconds around the fast quarter mile oval as he blasted out to a big lead in the early going. Heaslip would do the same thing after each of the two caution periods during the very well run race. Laurent Ladouceur was second when the checkered flag fell followed by Brian MacDonald, Chris Herbison and Mark Hitchcock. Joel Doiron’s 6th place finish was good enough to keep him in the points lead in the Modified division by one point over Hitchcock.

Marc Therrien gave himself a challenge and then answered the call in the 20 lap Late Model event. Therrien was involved in a multi car crash on the first lap that sent him to the back of the pack. The Alexandria driver slowly and methodically worked his way back through the field finally taking second spot with two laps remaining. On the final circuit he used a fast outside groove to drive right around Stephane Lebrun to score his third straight feature win. Lebrun had to settle for second. Dave Marshall, Todd Fletcher and Joey Ladouceur made up the remainder of the fast five.

Robin Laframboise took honours for the second time this season in the 15 lap Duke Stock event. Laframboise led the majority of the race and easily outdistanced Gaetan Amesse. Kees VanWinden came back from a mid race spin to claim third in front of Tammy Jalbert and Richard Turcotte.

A wild and wooly 12 lap Rookie stock main saw points leader Rosco Garreau go to victory lane. Garreau used a lap car as an block to take over the lead from Corey Wheeler with just two laps to go. Stuart Mullin ended up second with Roch Aubin in third.

Next Sunday night at Cornwall Motor Speedway features the return of the always popular Empire Super Sprints to make up a rained out show from earlier this season. The Modifieds, Late Models and Rookies will also be in action. The green flag drops at 7pm.
