Jones wins first Modified feature atCornwall

Chris Jones is no stranger to theCornwall Motor Speedway. The Demorestville driver once won theSportsman track championship. Sunday night he managed toaccomplish something completely different in the 30 lapModified main event. Jones scored his first Cornwall win inthe Modified division.

Jones took over the top spotaround the midway point and managed to finish about three carlengths in front of a late charging Joel Doiron. Kyle Jacobs,Richard Chauvin and Graham Gorman rounded out the top five.The race included two multi car pile ups on the frontstraightaway of the quarter mile oval. Luc Plante was launchedinto a violent flip in one of the incidents inflicting heavydamage on his car. He was able to walk away under his ownpower.

The fans were treated to thereturn of Modified legend Pat O Brien. O Brien climbed aboardthe Dauost car out of Quebec and rocketed to a win in his heatrace. He was however involved in both multi car accidents andwas forced to the pits as a result.

Akwesasne’s Roy Tarbell usedsome nifty moves on a mid race restart to grab the lead andwent on to win the 20 lap Late Model event. Stephane Lebrunwon the fierce battle for the runner up spot holding off ToddFletcher, Denis Gauvreau and Marc Therrien.

Former rookie champ Kees VanWinden scored his first Duke Stock feature win in just histhird attempt. Gaetan Amesse, Robin Laframboise, Tammy Jalbertand Patrick Nadon were second through fifth respectively.

Roch Aubin of Alexandria becamethe first repeat winner of the season in any division. Aubingrabbed the victory in the 10 lap Rookie feature. FrancisRivest was second with Rosco Garreau a strong third.

Next Sunday night at CornwallMotor Speedway includes a complete race program with action inall four classes. The green flag drops at 7 pm.
