Press Release

Second generation racer Lee Ladouceur won the 50-lap Late Model feature at the Cornwall Motor Speedway to become the 1999 "Mr.Late Model". Entering the night, Ladouceur was the outside choice to win trailing the leader, Darryl Steele by 20 points before any of the drivers ran their heats. After the heats, Steele had to finish top 3 to claim the Mr.Late Model title and for 45 laps, it looked like the Renfrew native would claim the title and the $1,000 that goes along with it. But Steele began smoking and lost power before heading for the pits with 3 laps to go. Marcel Pecore, from St.Andrews and Marc Therrien entered the feature tied for 2nd but Therrien and Pecore had problems near the end of the race with Therrien coming in 5th and Pecore 7th. Ladouceur won the Mr.Late Model title by 2 points over Therrien.

The race was the final of four in the Mr.Late Model series, 2nd in Cornwall. The other 2 were in Brockville.

George Renaud, from Green Valley, finished 2nd behind Ladouceur in the feature. Former Modified driver Billy King finished 3rd, Jody Swamp 4th. For the top 10 finish, log on to the Speedway's website at www.cornwallspeedway.com.

Pat O'Brien won his 2nd straight Modified feature at Cornwall. The Kingston, Ontario driver took advantage of several early cautions to work his way into the top 5 from his starting position of 14th. O'Brien finally took over the lead coming out of turn 4 at the half-way mark of the race with a move to the low side of, then leader Keith "Chico" Dingwall. Dingwall and Dave "The Slip" Heaslip waged war for 2nd and 3rd with Heaslip ending up behind O'Brien when the checkered flags fell. Dingwall finished 3rd. Bill "Moon" Mullin and Danny O'Brien came in 4th and 5th.

There was some controversy in the Duke Stock. Marcel Baron was leading the 15-lap feature with one turn to go when he got a bump from behind from Steve Johnston. Johnston, from Ingleside, Ontario went on the win the race but didn't get the points or purse for the win. Jody Beckstead finished 2nd. Baron had to settle for a last place finish.

Mitchell Jock won the Rookie Stock feature at Cornwall for the first time this season.

On Sunday, August 29th, it's "Fan Appreciation Night" at the Cornwall Motor Speedway. A complete racing program is on tap with several special draw prizes to be won.

Racing begins at 7 p.m. with the gates open at 5:30 p.m.
