Press Release

For the 2nd straight year, Danny O'Brien will carry the label of Cornwall Motor Speedway modified track champion. The Kingston driver finished 6th in Sunday's 30-lap feature and that was good enough to give him the title. O'Brien has a 70-point cushion over Laurent Ladouceur and with all drivers who show up for next week's "Jiffy 100" getting 60 points, the driver of 17D claims the crown.

Ladouceur won the feature on "Fan Appreciation Night". It was the Alexandria driver's 1st trip to victory lane this season. Ladouceur started 23rd in the feature and stayed patient during the caution filled race. The "Laser" took over the lead when O'Brien experienced mechanical problems and pulled up down the backstretch with 5 laps to go. Pat O'Brien took 2nd place with a strong finish. Stephane "The Little Hammer" Lafrance held on for 3rd. Smiths Falls, Ontario driver Dave Heaslip crossed the finish line 4th, Joel Doiron was 5th.

Ladouceur joined a short list of regular modified feature winners at Cornwall this year. Danny and Pat O'Brien, Mark Hitchcock and Luc Plante are the only other drivers to hold the checkered flag at Ron Morin's speed plant.

Darryl Steele won his 2nd Late Model feature of the season. The Renfrew, Ontario driver held off a strong charge from both Marc Therrien (2nd) and Lee Ladouceur (3rd). Marcel Pecore and Norm Burroughs finished 4th and 5th respectively.

Stephane Lemire, Drummondville, Quebec, won his 4th Duke Stock feature of the season. Jody Beckstead, Lunenburg, Ontario and Steve Johnston, Ingleside, Ontario, rounded out the top 3.

Kees Van Winden picked up his 4th checkered flag in the Rookie Stock feature. Martin Walter came in 2nd with Robin Laframboise coming in 3rd.

On Sunday, September 5th, the "Jiffy Auto Service 100" wraps up the regular racing season at Cornwall Motor Speedway. It's the 1st race in the Mr.Dirt small block modified championship trail with a $25,000 purse up for grabs. The Late Model, Duke and Rookie Stocks will wrap up the season and track champions will be crowned in all classes. The gates will open one half hour earlier than normal. Racing begins at 7 pm.
