Mike Clapperton, Steve Alger and Gary Smith Win at ARP

A full field of cars, 28 358 Modified-Sportsman, 24 Street Stock, and 38 Four Cylinder Street Stock packed the pits on Mirabito Fuel Group/Quickway Convenience Stores night at Afton Raceway Park. Two first time winners found victory lane with Mike Clapperton picking us his first 358 Modified-Sportsman win and Steve Alger taking the checkers in the Street Stock main. Gary Smith drove to his second consecutive win in the Four Cylinder Street Stock.

In the 358 Modified-Sportsman feature Mark Terry took the lead on a first lap restart and led Darrin Schuler and Mike Clapperton on a breakaway. Clapperton pulled under Schuler for second as the trio headed into lapped traffic. Using the slower cars, Clapperton pulled the M16 into the lead. This lead was short lived as coming out of turn 2 Terry took the 3M into the grass to retake the lead while Clapperton was boxed in by three lapped cars. Then on the next lap, Terry ran into lapped traffic difficulties as he tangled with Cookie Morris in turn 1 giving the lead back to Clapperton. During the caution, second place Darrin Schuler pulled the 74 to the pits, moving Jamie Paige into second. Clapperton held off Paige to take the win with Joe Sellars third, Wink Hinkley fourth, and Dave Rosa fifth.

In the Street Stock feature early leader Ed Ward spun in turn 2 to give the lead to Mike Buchek on lap 3. By lap 4 Steve Alger had moved into second and was challenging for the lead. On a restart Alger pulled the 116A down low coming out of turn 2 to take the lead. Gary Card had moved into third and the three cars battled for the lead. At the finish Steve Alger picked up his first feature win ever; Mike Buchek with his best finish of the year in second; Gary Card's third place finish gave him the lead in points; with Jerry Northrup fourth; and Al MacRabie fifth. In the Four Cylinder feature Gary Smith took the lead from Rich

Lashway on a lap 9 restart. Smith then held off a hard charging Rick Granger to take home the win. Jim Weaver took third, Jonathan Lafever fourth, and Jake Slack fifth.
