"LIGHTNING" TERRY MIETZLER AND RICK TODOROW WIN NASCAR STOCK
CAR FEATURE EVENTS AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
BECHTELSVILLE, PA May 12, 2001 . . . Former Grandview
Speedway NASCAR Modified stock car champion "Lightning" Terry
Meitzler of Kutztown, PA manhandled the Meitzler Excavating
entry to victory Saturday night. The win came in the 30-lap
Craftsman Tools NASCAR Modified feature race, his first of
the season, earning him $2200.
The 20-lap feature for NASCAR Late Models was won by Rick
Todorow of Quakertown, PA, his first of the season, in the
Juniper Auto Body/Juniper Auto Car sponsored entry.
In victory lane, celebrating the fact that he was the
fifth different winner in as many NASCAR Modified events this
season at Grandview, Terry Meitzler said, "I'll take a top 5
down here anytime. We've been struggling real bad. Tonight we
had as much moisture in the track as we had all year. That
really helps my car. We have been tightening and tightening.
The car really felt good tonight. The most trouble we had was
in three and four. There was a cushion that acted like a curb
and I couldn't keep the nose down. Other than that it was a
good night."
Brian Kressley pulled away from the 30-car starting field
at the start of the 30-lap feature and looked like he was the
man to beat. Keith Brightbill and Shawn Reimert gave Kressley
a battle. Rick Schaffer put himself out as he lost it in turn
four and got hit by others. Kressley continued to be the man
to beat.
At 12 laps, on a restart, Terry Meitzler flexed his
muscles and jumped into the lead just about the time Tom
Mayberry was heading to the pits.
Meitzler controlled the balance of the race with Jeff
Strunk, a winner on Friday night at Big Diamond Raceway,
coming up to try for a second weekend victory with
Kenworth/Cummins sponsored entry. At the finish Meitzler,
earning this win for his wife Karen on Mother's Day, had a
comfortable lead in front of Strunk. Third place went to Meme
DeSantis followed by Brian Kressley and Jon Kellner.
Unofficially Meme DeSantis earned another $200 from
Timber Wolf Tobacco as the Hard Charger. He came from 20th to
finish third on a night when there were few cautions and the
track was in excellent condition.
For the second week in a row Bill Henning had his Dodge
in front of the pack at the start. And it was Henning, out of
Lansdale, PA who set the pace for three quarters of the race.
Rick Todorow jumped in front of the pack on the 15th lap
after he and Henning battled for several laps. Once in front
the Quakertown Auto Body Shop operator was able to hold off a
strong challenge from your Sam Schlosberg to get his first
win. Todorow was the fifth different feature winner of the
season in late models. Third spot went to Doug Walton
followed by four time champion Dean Stoudt and Bill Henning.
Qualifying heat races for the close to 60 modifieds on
hand went to Ray Swinehart, Jeff Strunk, Shawn Reimert, Rick
Schaffer and Keith Brightbill. The consolation races went to
Donny Erb, Doug Manmiller and Kenny Gilmore. And the
Automotive Machining Services Cash Dash, with $100 from
Craftsman Tools, was worth $475 with the win going to Rick
Schaffer.
In the NASCAR Late Models qualifiers wins went to Bill
Henning, Chuck Sennott and Ron Chrisman.
