MAYBERRY WINS FORREST ROGERS CLASSIC WORTH $10,000 AT
GRANDVIEW WHILE TODOROW GETS FIRST OF THE SEASON IN LATES
BECHTELSVILLE, PA AUGUST 7, 1999 . . . It was a race he
wanted to win. It was a race he talked about wanting to win
for several weeks. It was a race that he told fans from
victory lane that he wanted to win the previous week. And now
Tom Mayberry can talk about how he won the Motor Truck
Equipment Co. Kenworth Cummins Forrest Rogers Memorial 50-lap
classic on Saturday night, his seventh win of the season,
worth $10,000 to him and car owner Mike Kelly. Mayberry's win
came in front of a near standing room only crowd.
"I had won it before and I wanted to win it again.
Forrest Rogers must have been quite a man to build this
speedway. I wish I had had the opportunity to know him. I
want to thank the Rogers Family for running the race and
Kenworth Cummins for sponsoring the race. And I want to thank
the crew and car owner Mike Kelly for a great car. I think
this second win is even better than the first," said Mayberry
in victory lane as his voice cracked with emotion.
Rick Todorow, locked in a tight battle with Dean Stoudt
for the late model track championship won his first 20-lap
late model feature of the season topping Stoudt by a narrow
margin. The Quakertown body shop operator is just one point
behind Stoudt in the chase for the title with four point
races remaining.
In the Forrest Rogers Memorial, 50 laps, Jack Hartnett
set the early pace. On the fourth lap Kenny Gilmore brought out
the only caution in a race that was run off in just about 17
minutes. Hartnett was on top, dreaming of how to spend the
$10,000 winners money, until the 26th lap. Tom Mayberry, who
started 15th, came to the front and grabbed the lead. At 30
laps it was Mayberry, Jeff Strunk, Hartnett, Kerry Kratz and Sam Schoenly.
At the 36 lap marker Glenn Strunk had moved up to
challenge Mayberry while Kerry Kratz, Jeff Strunk and Terry
Meitzler, who had come from 19th, formed the top five.
Kratz was using the high groove to his advantage and got
by Glenn Strunk while Mayberry was using the low groove
preparing to hold off the hard charging Kratz as he knew he
was coming in the closing laps. At the finish Mayberry was
just a slim margin in front of Kratz (Bechtelsville). Third
spot went to Glenn Strunk (Bechtelsville), Jeff Strunk
(Bethel) finished fourth. The Strunk Brothers now run as a
team with the Keith Harring Motorsports Kenworth Cummins
support. In fifth was Terry Meitzler (Kutztown), the current
modified point leader.
Meitzler and Mayberry, unofficially tied for the Timber
Wolf Smokeless Tobacco Hard Charger Award of $200 as they
each gained 14 spots in the feature.
In the 20-lap feature for NASCAR Late Models Kyle
Pensinger lead early, as he has done a number of times this
season, and was on top until the midway point. At ten laps
Rick Todorow got control of the event and stayed in front,
holding off challenges from Dean Stoudt throughout the final
10 laps. At the finish it was Todorow in front by a car
length over Dean Stoudt (East Greenville) followed by Buddy
Wharton (Birdsboro) for his best effort of the season, Mike
Erb (Boyertown) and Jeff Teets (Coplay).
Qualifying event wins for the late models went to John
Durling, Kyle Pensinger and Jeff Teets. The consolation race
was won by Ed Hoffman.
In the modified heats wins went to Kevin Hartnett, Kerry
Kratz, Ed Aikin, Shawn Reimert and Kenny Gruber. The
consolation races were won by Tracy Readinger, Doug
Pannepacker and Jon Kellner while Kenny Gruber's win in the
Cash Dash earned him $560.
More than 200 guests of Motor Truck Equipment Co.
Kenworth Cummins along with T.H. Properties enjoyed a night
at the races. They took advantage of a pig roast in the
Grandview Speedway Turn One Club and more than 50 fans went
home with some great prizes courtesy of Kenworth Cummins. In

and the Blowfish, Kenny Rogers and Mark Chestnut concerts at
