JEFF STRUNK AND CHUCK SENNOTT WIN AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY

BECHTELSVILLE, PA MAY 15, 1999 . . . "Track conditions made

for great racing," said Jeff Strunk in Grandview Speedway's

victory lane after winning the 30-lap NASCAR Modified stock

car feature race on Saturday night. "The car was as fast the

last three weeks as it was tonight but we have had a rough

couple of weeks. Our luck is changing....we think."

Strunk, has returned to Grandview Speedway making it his

regular Saturday night stop after a few years of racing and

winning at other local speedways. The "Bechtelsville Bullet"

drove the Keith Harring owned Cummins/Kenworth sponsored

modified to the $2,200 victory, his first of the season.

In the late model division Chuck Sennott, a transplanted

New Yorker, also has been having his share of bad luck but

"good luck" was on his side on Saturday as he won his first

20-lap NASCAR Shortrack late model feature of the season.

The Gilbertsville racer and his Kochel Equipment sponsored

mount did have some help when, midway through the race, Lou

Egrie and Dean Stoudt tangled battling for the lead, forcing

them to the rear of the field and giving the lead BACK to Sennott.

Defending track late model champion Chuck Schutz, who

moved into modifieds rather than defend his title, set the

early pace and was in front of the pack for ten laps. In turn

two on the 10th circuit Schutz went high and veteran Ron

Haring, who had been on his rear since the start, took

advantage and grabbed the lead. Ken Lindaberry got second

spot two laps later.

Jeff Strunk moved into the picture at the midway marker

and took second at 18 laps and grabbed the top spot on a

restart on the 19th lap. A variety of spins and tangles

eliminated some of the competition including three feature

winner Tom Mayberry, Schutz, Motor Truck Equipment Co.

Kenworth/Cummins PA NASCAR Modified Series point leader Jon

Kellner, previous week's feature winner John Willman and others.

In the final laps Ken Lindaberry and defending champion

Ray Swinehart along with current modified point leader Terry

Meitzler kept Strunk busy has he worked the track to keep his

lead. At the finish Strunk was just a few feet in front of

second place Lindaberry (Coopersburg) to grab the $2,200

victory. Third spot went to Meitzler (Kutztown) followed by

Swinehart (Bechtelsville) and Ron Haring (Allentown).

The 20-lap main event for NASCAR Shortrack Late Models

had Casey Ebright in front at the start. Two laps later Chuck

Sennott took the top spot and was in front until the 10th lap

when former champion Lou Egrie got the top spot coming off

turn four. And it was just two laps later that Egrie and Dean

Stoudt, battling for first, tangled on the main straightaway

sending both to the rear of the field. Chuck Sennott took

back first place with Jeff Teets, a three feature winner

nursing a bad right rear tire, in second spot.

Terry Snyder came on in the final laps to challenge

Sennott but at the finish Sennott was able to grab the win

with Terry Snyder (Green Lane) finishing second. Third spot

went to Rick Todorow (Quakertown) followed by Jeff Teets

(Coplay) and John Giesler (Aston).

Qualifying heat races for the NASCAR Modifieds were won

by Jeff Strunk, Steve Folk, Ken Lindaberry and Terry

Meitzler. Consolation events were won by Cliff Quinn and

Dennis Fisher while the Cash Dash worth $350 went to Ken Lindaberry.

In late model preliminaries the wins were earned by Kyle

Pensinger, Sam Schlosberg and Bill Henning with Ron Chrisman

getting the consolation victory.

NASCAR Modifieds and NASCAR Shortrack Late Models return

to Grandview Speedway on Saturday, May 22, 7:30 p.m. Luciana

Kitchens and Bath of Pottstown will sponsor the night of

racing and there will be some free prizes for the fans.

PIT NOTES:Danny Erb, who started 28th in the modified feature

and finished 12th, earned the Timber Wolf Smokeless Tobacco

Hard Charger Award worth $200. And Rob Ratoskey garnered the

Kochel Equipment First Alternate Award with the Modifieds.

It was announced this past week that modified racers at

Grandview Speedway and Big Diamond Raceway will be eligible

to race for more than $40,000 in point fund money. The new

Motor Truck Equipment Co.Cummins/Kenworth PA NASCAR Modified

Championship Series will require that a team compete in at

least 10 NASCAR Modified events at each of the two tracks.

The champion will earn $15,000 at the end of the season with

the top fifteen finishers earning point fund money. Other

special perks will be announced.

Grandview Speedway and several other local tracks were

featured in a three page story in the Weekend Section of the

Philadelphia Inquirer on Friday, May 14. Several photos of

action, in color, from Grandview Speedway were used. The

Philadelphia Inquirer has close to 1 million readers each

day. Great exposure for local short track racing. Rick

Schaffer, the NASCAR Modified racer, is sponsored by The

Inquirer. This is the second time this season that The

Inquirer has had a story on Grandview Speedway.
