MAYBERRY AND TEETS WIN FEATURES FOR THIRD TIME AT GRANDVIEW

BECHTELSVILLE, PA MAY 1, 1999 . . . For the third time this

season both Tom Mayberry and Jeff Teets were in victory lane

at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night. Mayberry wheeled the

A&T Chevrolet/Golden Corral Restaurant modified to victory in

the 30-lap NASCAR Modified feature race and Teets brought his

Salvage Transport Services late model home first in the

12-lap late model feature, shortened from 20 laps due to the

event time limit expiring.

Mayberry and Teets have each won their features on the same nights.

Responding to a question from track announcer Ernie

Saxton in victory lane, " Is it as easy as it looks, winning

three features this early in the season?", Mayberry said,

"No. It looks easy because we have a great crew, a great

owner (Mike Kelly) and great equipment. We also have some

great sponsors in A&T Chevrolet, Golden Corral Restaurant and others."

When asked if he knew that second place finisher Chip

Slocum was as close as he was?. Mayberry responded with, "I

knew someone was back there (close). I checked the scoreboard

and saw who it was (Slocum) and it made me run a little

harder." Slocum was less than two car lengths behind Mayberry

at the finish.

Tracy Readinger put the D&S Archery entry in front of

the 28 car modified field at the start. At the nine lap

marker Mayberry, coming from ninth, was on Readinger rear

bumper. And on the 10th lap Mayberry was able to motor his

way to the front by using the outside groove. Chip Slocum

followed Mayberry and the two staged a battle for the top

spot for the balance of the 30-lap feature. At the finish the

Sellersville racer was on top with Slocum (Ewing Township,

NJ) a very close second. Tracy Readinger (Laureldale) had

his best effort of the season with a third followed by Ed

Aikin (Broomall) and his T&C Hobbies entry finishing a strong

fourth. Kenny Gruber (Reading) got fifth.

In what was suppose to be a 20-lap feature for NASCAR

Late Models, time ran out before all 20 laps could be

completed. In fact just 12 laps were completed in a feature

that could have been advertised as an oval track destruction

derby. Roger Decker set the pace for two laps before being

eliminated in a multi car accident. On the restart Casey

Ebright was in charge. However he spun while leading before a

lap could be run. On the next restart Jeff Teets (Coplay) was

in charge and that is where he stayed for the balance of the

feature. Former champion Lou Egrie (Philadelphia) put some

pressure on the leader for several laps but his efforts were

hampered by the large number of cautions that slowed the pace

of the event.

With just 12 laps of the feature program completed and

more time than usual allowed for the event, officials

declared it an complete event and Jeff Teets took home the

victory. Lou Egrie was second followed by Rick Todorow

(Quakertown), Ed Hoffman (Allentown) and Chuck Sennott (Gilbertsville).

Qualifying heat races for the NASCAR Modifieds were won

by Chip Slocum, Dennis Bailey, Tracy Readinger and Kenny

Gruber while the consolation races went to Sam Martz and Ray

Swinehart. The Cash Dash, worth $350, was won by Chip Slocum.

The new Timber Wolf Smokeless Tobacco Hard Charger

Award, for the modified driver improving the most positions

in the feature, earned Kerry Kratz $200. He came from 22nd to

finish 9th (unofficially).

Point standings for the NASCAR Modifieds show Terry

Meitzler (Kutztown) in front with 1296 points followed by Tom

Mayberry (Sellersville) 1246, Kerry Kratz (Bechtelsville)

1192, Kevin Hartnett (Perkasie) 1122, and Jon Kellner

(Lansdale) 1056.

In the NASCAR Late Model division Dean Stoudt (East

Greenville) is on top with 1393 followed by three feature

winner Jeff Teets (Coplay) 1275. Third is Rick Todorow

(Quakertown) 1252, Ed Hoffman (Allentown) 1229, and Lou Egrie

(Philadelphia) 1135.

Sprint cars (All Star Circuit of Champions 410 sprints

and KARS 358 sprints) are in action at Grandview Speedway on

Wednesday, May 5 starting at 7:30 p.m.

And on Saturday, May 8, 7:30 p.m. at least 13 events of

NASCAR Modifieds and NASCAR Late Models will be featured as

part of Black Horse Auto Body Night. First 100 ladies through

the main gate will receive a rose courtesy of Baldwin's

Flowers of Conshohocken, PA. And there will be gifts for the

oldest mom and the youngest mom in the audience courtesy of

P.K. Moyer & Sons along with Towne Restaurant in Telford, PA.

PIT NOTES: The Philadelphia Inquirer, Pennsylvania's largest

newspaper had a photographer on hand for a story they are

doing on racing at Grandview Speedway.

NEW is the use of radios by the racers and track

officials to communicate restart positions and other

information in an effort to present a better organized show.

The radio system seemed to work well on Saturday the first

night they were made mandatory.

And Bob Dillner of The Nashville Network's RACEDAY was

visiting along with his father and one of the show producers.

Dillner is a former track announcer and writer who was

exchanging some old stories with Grandview announcer Ernie

Saxton. They are long time friends. Dillner and party even

had their photo taken in victory lane with the Jeff Teets

winning late model.

Fans like it when Mayberry wins because his sponsor A&T

Chevry also sponsor the Pick the Winner contest and doubles

the money when Mayberry wins. There were six happy winners of

the A&T Chevy Pick the Winner contest on Saturday.
