STEVE FOLK AND JEFF TEETS WIN FEATURES
AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
Bechtelsville, PA August 29, 1998 . . . For just the second time in his career
Steve Folk won the 30-lap Kreiser Racing Fuels/Feinours Citgo NASCAR Winston
Racing Series Modified stock car feature race at Grandview Speedway on
Saturday night. And it was Jeff Teets winning the 20-lap NASCAR Winston
Shortrack Late Model feature for the fourth time this season.
Folk, at the wheel of the Bob Lilick owned, Dupell Landscaping sponsored
entry, a ride he took over just about a month ago, started on the pole and
stayed in the top spot for the entire 30 laps. The Collegeville, PA racer had
his hands full early in the main event holding off strong efforts from Ron
Haring, Dave Faust and Sam Schoenly. With the track surface in excellent shape
Folk was able to run both the high and low grooves to protect his number one
position. With ten laps to go Sam Schoenly, who had run side by side with
Folk, had dropped out with mechanical problems. Donny Erb, having his best run
of the season, moved into second and challenged the leader. Kevin Hartnett had
taken third.
In the final five laps Folk ran a steady race with Donny Erb right on his rear
bumper. Erb (Douglassville) and his Hollenbach Home Center machine had to
settle for second while Folk visited victory lane to accept his $2,200 first
place money. Third spot went to Kevin Hartnett ( Perkasie) who had come from
9th starting spot. Jeff Strunk (Bechtelsville) came from 14th to finish fourth
and Chip Slocum (Ewing Township, NJ) grabbed fifth. Current modified point
leader Ray Swinehart (Bechtelsville) got a sixth place finish and increased
his point lead as they head into the final point race of the season on
Saturday, September 5.
Buddy Wharton started on the pole but it was Bill Henning putting the
Henning's Supermarket entry in front of the pack before the first lap was
completed. With the five lap marker out Henning got wide in turn two and in
the confusion Jeff Teets made the best of it and put his Harry's U Pull-It
Auto Parts entry in front of the field. Once in front, the Coplay, PA racer
was able to fend off challenges from Kyle Pensinger, Chuck Schutz and Dean
Stoudt to pick up his fourth win of the season. Second place, in a strong
final lap effort, went to current late model point leader Chuck Schutz
(Pottstown) followed by Kyle Pensinger (Lyons), Dean Stoudt (East Greenville)
and Randy Stoudt (Pottstown).
Qualifying heat races for the NASCAR Winston Racing Series Modifieds went to
Kerry Kratz, Terry Meitzler, Steve Folk, Jeff Strunk and Jon Kellner.
Consolation races, more than 50 modifieds on hand, were won by Sam Martz, Rick
Schaffer and Randy Bailey. The Quigley Dodge Cash Dash was won by Jeff Strunk
and was worth $345.
In the NASCAR Late Model qualifying action the preliminary events were won by
Bill Henning, Randy Stoudt and Chuck Schutz while the consolation race went to
Mike Erb.
The final point events of the season make up Harry's U Pull-It Auto Parts
Night at Grandview Speedway on Saturday, September 5, 7:30 p.m. The
championships will be decided in both the NASCAR Modifieds and NASCAR Late
Models. In addition the championship in the Dual Track Challenge Series,
modified racers at Big Diamond Raceway and Grandview Speedway, will be
decided. At present Ray Swinehart is on top in the NASCAR Modifieds at
Grandview and in the Dual Track chase. In the modified standings at Grandview
Ray Swinehart has just a 118 point edge going into the final night of point
racing. Second is Terry Meitzler while Kerry Kratz is third, 232 points behind
Meitzler. And in the Late Models it is Chuck Schutz (4743 points) on top
followed closely by Randy Stoudt (4655) and Dean Stoudt (4626). Less than 120
points separate the top three. All that can change on Saturday night. Rain
date is Sunday, September 6, 7 p.m. And on Thursday, September 10, the annual
Schaeffer's Family Restaurant Freedom 76 Golf Tournament is presented at
Gilbertsville Golf Course starting at 8:30 a.m. And on Saturday, September 12,
the 28th annual Schaeffer's Family Restaurant Freedom 76 for Modifieds will be
presented. Racing for more than $50,000 in prize money will start at 7 p.m. At
3 p.m. there will be interviews, autograph sessions, music, entertainment and
race car displays on the speedway grounds. Rain date is Sunday, September 13.
