SHAWN REIMERT AND DEAN STOUDT
WIN NASCAR FEATURES AT GRANDVIEW
Bechtelsville, PA August 1, 1998 . . . For the first time this season Shawn
Reimert was able to wheel the KochelEquipment/Karcher Pressure Washer
sponsored modified to victory in the 30-lap Winston No Bull/Jack’s Coventry
Mart Night NASCAR Modified feature race at Grandview Speedway on Saturday
night. And it was Dean Stoudt in his Kutztown Glass & Mirror entry winning his
third of the season in the NASCAR Winston Racing Series Short Track Late Model
20-lap feature race.
Reimert, who calls Oley, PA home, was emotional in victory lane. “I didn’t
think we were going to win again here. We have been finishing second, third,
fourth and fifth but we just could not get to victory lane. This win is for my
fans who have supported me, my family and my sponsors.” said a teary eyed
Reimert. The victory was worth $2,200.
John Willman was the early leader in the 30-lap feature for the NASCAR Winston
Racing Series Modifieds and set the pace for the 29 car starting field for six
laps. Reimert was able to take the lead on a restart after a caution on the
seventh lap and once in front Reimert did not relinquish the lead. Glenn
Strunk put pressure on the leader for many laps before being forced to the
pits with a flat tire. Then it was Cliff Quinn, in search of his first career
victory, knocking on the rear bumper of Reimert’s modified. Current point
leader Ray Swinehart was also in the battle with Quinn and Swinehart swapping
their positions back and forth while Reimert worked at holding both of them
off. At the checkered flag Reimert was just a few feet in front of the hard
charging Quinn (Allentown). Swinehart (Bechtelsville), who started in 23rd,
spot put on a magnificent driving exhibition to get third. Fourth place went
to Kerry Kratz (Bechtelsville) followed by Kevin Hartnett (Perkasie).
In the 20-lap feature race for NASCAR Late Models Mark “The Baker” Kropp
(Reading) was the early leader setting the pace for five laps before Dean
Stoudt (East Greenville) came from ninth to take the lead. Kropp bobbled and
dropped to third giving Randy Stoudt (Pottstown) second spot and the two
Stoudts (not related ) spent the rest of the feature race laps battling for
the victory. At the finish Dean Stoudt, a multi-time champion in the late
models, was in front with Randy Stoudt just a narrow margin behind in second.
Third place went to current point leader Chuck Schutz (Pottstown) followed by
defending champion Lou Egrie (Philadelphia) and Mark Kropp (Reading).
Qualifying heat races for the NASCAR WRS Modifieds were won by Kerry Kratz,
Jack Hartnett, Jon Kellner and Kevin Hartnett while the consolation wins were
earned by Junior Mikosz and Dennis Bailey. Jon Kellner won the Automotive
Machining Services Cash Dash worth $450. In the Late Model qualifiers the
victories were earned by Jimmy Meitzler, Jr., Mark Kropp and Chris Wojnar. And
it was Scott Miley winning the consolation race.
This Saturday night the Forrest Rogers Memorial NASCAR Modified Classic will
be presented. This will be the 28th annual edition with $10,000 going to the
winner. A full series of qualifying events will be presented with 29 cars
going to the 40-lap championship race. There will also be a full series of
qualifying events for the NASCAR late models leading up to a 20-lap feature
starting 26 cars. Terry Meitzler is the defending champion of the Forrest
Rogers Memorial race run in memory of the founder and builder of the speedway.
Two time winner Billy Pauch is expected to try for a feature starting spot.
Pauch will be racing in a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race earlier in the
day and barring any problems, Pauch is expected to be at Grandview Speedway
that evening.
COMCAST/SPORTS CHANNEL will feature Grandview Speedway and sports anchor Pete
Christy in some racing action on Thursday, August 6, 10 p.m. and Friday,
August 7, 7 p.m. Christy challenged Ray Swinehart and Bobby Gunther Walsh, two
NASCAR modified racers, in a five lap event. Christy was at the wheel of the
Mike Kelly owned Golden Corral/Custom Creations sponsored entry (#7-12) and
had an encounter with the fourth turn wall on the final lap. The “day at the
track” for Pete Christy should make for some interesting TV viewing. Grandview
Speedway management offers their thanks to Mike Kelly, Rick Fenstermacher,
Bobby Gunther Walsh, Ray Swinehart and others who participated. The Boyertown
Times had sports editor Amy Hamilton and photographer Harold Hoch on hand to
record the action. Promoter Bruce Rogers was the official starter.
The latest NASCAR point standings at Grandview Speedway show Ray Swinehart (
Bechtelsville) in front in the NASCAR Winston Racing Series Modifieds as they
chase the lucrative point fund money and a trip for two (nine days, eight
nights) to Maui. Second is Terry Meitzler ( Kutztown) 3738, followed by Kerry
Kratz (Bechtelsville) 3734, Glenn Strunk (Boyertown) 3574, and Kenny Gilmore
(Fleetwood) 3318. In the NASCAR Late Models Chuck Schutz (Pottstown) leads the
standings with 3944 points. Close behind is Randy Stoudt (Pottstown) 3848,
followed by former champion Dean Stoudt (East Greenville) 3766, Junior Grebe (
Boyertown ) 3609, and John Giesler (Aston) 3453. There have been 13 different

late models there have been 10 different feature winners in 15 features
run.The battle for the point titles at Grandview Speedway includes all events
run up to and including September 5 though the season continues until the end
of September.
A schedule change shows that the KLASCAR Legend cars have been added to the
schedule on Saturday, August 22. The NASCAR Winston Racing Series Modifieds
will also be featured but there will be no NASCAR Late Model stock car racing
that evening.
