WADE HENDRICKSON BEATS KENNY BRIGHTBILL TO FINISH LINE FOR MODIFIED WIN AT EAST WINDSOR SPEEDWAY FRIDAY NIGHT

EAST WINDSOR, N.J. ~ Wade Hendrickson of Lawrenceville came out on top in a stunning duel with Kenny Brightbill of Sinking Spring, Pa. to win his first 25-lap Modified main event since September, 1999 at the East Windsor Speedway Friday night. It was the "Flying Farmer's" 15th career win at the half-mile clay oval and broke a stranglehold on the track's winner's circle by Brightbill, Doug Hoffman, Billy Pauch and Jimmy Horton that has endured for nearly two years.

Mike Johnston of Franklin Park led the first 11 circuits while Hendrickson advanced from ninth on the 22-car grid. Hendrickson then took command with both Pauch and Brightbill in hot pursuit. Pauch dropped from the race with ten laps remaining when a broken power steering line drenched him with hot fluid. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.

Brightbill was then left to chase Hendrickson before sweeping into the lead with just two laps remaining. Hendrickson was not giving up, however, as he raced back into the top spot on the final lap and then held off Brightbill to the checker flag. Horton was third, while Johnston and Mike McAleer completed the top five.

Mike Lyons of Hightstown made the companion 20-lapper for the Sportsman cars a thriller as he raced from 18th and into the lead by inches at the finish line. Lyons' mount was not able to pass a post-race inspection, however, and that handed the victory to defending champion Art Liedl, Jr. of Flemington. Barry Christ of Piscataway was second in an event slowed by just two caution flags, while Englishtown's John Romano, Jr. was third, G.R. Smith of Folsom was fourth and Robbinsville's Jeff Acolia was fifth.

Defending Street Stock champion Al Cheney III of Cranbury continued his rampage in the Street Stock 15-lapper winning his sixth main event of the year and his fifth in six outings. Cheney grabbed the lead with three laps to spare, while Rob Melton of Columbus was an impressive second. Greg Buchanon of Nazareth, Pa., Hamilton's Carol Whitehouse and Kevin Bifulco of Cranbury were third through fifth.

Friday night racing continues weekly at the East Windsor Speedway with the first green flag waving at 7:30 p.m. This Friday evening, July 19, the Modifieds battle in twin 20-lap main events, with the Sportsman cars racing 20-laps and the Street Stocks competing in a 15-lapper. The Sprint Cars will have the night off.
