TREMONT CONTINUES ASSUALT ON VICTORY LANE, WINS SEVENTH
WEST LEBANON, N.Y.- Kenny Tremont took home the win in the 30-lap modified
feature at Lebanon Valley on Saturday night. It was Tremont's fourth win in
a row and seventh on the season. Jeff Cassidy took home top honors in the
20-lap sportsman main and Danny Sanchez won the 20-lap street stock feature.
The modified feature started off with a bang. Contact in the front
of the pack caused a major pileup in the front straightaway. Only the front
four cars avoided the incident completely. Many cars did not sustain any
major damage, but some were done completely. One of the cars that was
damaged badly was Brett Hearn. His car sustained front-end damage and he
returned eleven laps down. Tremont came out of the incident in sixth
position.
Jason Goff took the lead on the restart and Tremont jumped into
second by the second lap. Another driver that benefited from the lap one
melee was John Hewitt; he was up to fifth by lap six. Tremont would take the
top spot on a lap eight restart. Dave Leckonby moved up to the second spot
passed Goff on the same restart. Hewitt and Eddie Marshall would race for
fourth on lap nine, with Hewitt holding the spot. The yellow flag would slow
the field on lap eleven.
Hewitt would take the third place on the restart. Marshall and Goff
would go side by side for fourth on lap eleven. Marshall would take the spot
from Goff. Rich Ricci was moving up through the field; he was up to eighth
by lap 14. Ricci would grab seventh on lap 19. Tremont was untouchable on
the front and quickly pulled out a huge advantage over Leckonby.
Jody Tornabene would lose a top ten finish on lap 26 with a right
rear flat tire. Tremont would encounter heavy lapped traffic on lap 27, but
got through it cleanly. Tremont would take the checkered flag a half-track
ahead of Leckonby. Hewitt had his best finish of the season in third.
Marshall came home fourth and Goff finished fifth.
Frank Harper took the lead from his fourth spot on the start of the
20-lap sportsman feature. The sportsman feature would be plagued by yellow
fever. Ten caution periods slowed the event. Lee Gagliardi, George Marcus
and Bobby Hackel would go three wide for second on a lap two restart. Marcus
would take third on lap seven. Marcus tried to take the lead on lap eight,
but made contact with the leader, Tony Ferraro. Marcus was sent to the rear
as a result. Jeff Cassidy inherited the lead as a result.
Art Collins made a hard charge to the front of the pack after being
involved in an early race incident; he was up to sixth by lap nine. Collin
would eventually work his way up to the fourth position. Hackel and Chalmers
challenged Cassidy several times for the lead. Cassidy held off all the
challenges and took home his second win of the season.
Chalmers took the runner-up spot. Hackel finished third, Art Collins fourth
and George Marcus came home fifth.
The street stocks ran two feature events on Saturday night. The
first event had several early incidents that took out some of the top
drivers. Chris Morris had a good run in the early going of the feature.
Henry Tanner had started the feature at the end of the pack; he worked his
way up to third by halfway. John Routhier would challenge Morris for lead
on lap 13. Tanner would take second from Routhier on lap 14. Danny Sanchez
was coming up steadily as well; he was third on lap 16. Tanner was running
down the front-running Morris when Morris tagged the wall. Tanner took the
lead and the victory. Sanchez came home second, Routhier third, Rob Yetman
fourth and Rob Duzlak fifth.
Dave Striebel led the early portion of the second 20-lap feature.
Todd Goldstein was up to second by lap seven. Goldstein would battle
Striebel for the lead on lap eight. Rob Yetman had a good run; he raced
Goldstein for second on lap ten. Yetman would grab second and chase Striebel
for the lead on the same lap. Scott Goversten was up to fourth by lap 15.
The top four cars would run tightly bunched in the final laps. Sanchez would
take second on lap 18 and make a pass for the lead on the final lap. He
would take the checkered flag first for the second time this season. Yetman
had his best career street stock finish in second. Striebel was third, Bob
Duzlak fourth and Henry Tanner fifth.
A special six-lap dash for cash was held, as part of the modified's
night of activities. Tommy Corellis was on hand for the evenings racing and
drove his son's, Donnie, racer in the dash. Eddie Marshall took home the win
in the dash. Corellis finished third. Rifenburg Construction was the evenings
sponsor and put on the special dash. Other drivers in the dash were Dickie
Larkin, Stanley Wetmore and John Hewitt.
Next week at Lebanon Valley will be the first rollover contest at
the Valley.
