BRIAN MCDONALD, JODY SWAMP, JEFF MARSHALL, BILLY WOODWARD, JR. AND ERNIE CREE WIN AT FROGTOWN
Brian McDonald of Cornwall, Ontario continues to have things go his way as he picked up yet another 358 Modified win at Frogtown. McDonald with his win has tightened up the points race significantly to where it has become the closest points race in Frogtown history among no less than the top six drivers with only two more weeks left in the regular season.
Bruce Sawyer and Dan Jalbert started on the front row of the Smith Lumber / LaFrance Performance 25 lap main event with Sawyer grabbing the early lead followed by Jalbert, Delbert Legrow, Chirs Jones and Kevin Fetterly. On lap #4 the caution came out in turn #2 involving no less than six cars in a massive pile up that sent some of the early leaders to the pits.
On the restart Sawyer once again grabbed the lead only to loose it to Jeff Sykes who had come from his 10th starting spot on lap #7. Pat O'Brien had quickly moved through the field as well from his 15th starting spot and now found himself behind Sykes now followed by Bruce Sawyer, Kevin Fetterly and Brian McDonald. On lap #10 McDonald got by O'Brien and then made a great move to get by Jeff Sykes to grab the lead. Sykes stayed close to McDonald the rest of the way staging a great battle with McDonald for the lead but McDonald was just too much for the rest and went on for the win. Pat O'Brien and Kevin Fetterly were both in the final lap able to get by Jeff Sykes after a great three car battle on the last lap to finish second and third respectively with Jeff Sykes and Mark Hitchcock rounding out the top five.
In the DIRT Pro Stock division, it was Jody Swamp finally putting things all together to claim the win. In the most exciting race of the evening, Jody Swamp and Casey Swamp started on the front row and right from the drop of the green staged one of the greatest side by side battles ever seen at Frogtown. Casey Swamp was able to just barely maintain a lead over Jody until lap #12 when Jody was able to finally get by for the lead. On lap #15 Casey Swamp's bid for his best finish of the season came to an end as he headed to the pits.
Dave Bissonnette and P.J. Peters had worked their way to the front finally and were ready to go after Jody Swamp for the lead. It came down to a two car battle royal to the end between Jody and Dave Bissonnette with Swamp hanging on for the win. Dave Bissonnette finished second with P.J. Peters, Gilles Godard and John Lazore rounding out the top five.
In the Semi Pro division Jeff Marshall, Tammy Jalbert and Greg Snyder put on a great show for the fans in a great three car battle that found Marshall coming home with the win after grabbing the lead from Jalbert on lap #2 of the race. Tammy Jalbert finished second with Greg Snyder, Scott Sharpe and Kevin Mayville rounding out the top five.
In the Bandit division it was a battle right down to the wire between Danielle Legault and Billy Woodward, Jr. for the top spot. Roch Aubin grabbed the early lead only to loose it to Kevin Fetterly, Jr. in lap #3. Fetterly looked like he might be headed for his third straight win at the "Frog" until problems mechanically forced him off the pace allowing both Woodward and Legault to get by. On the final lap coming off the #4 turn the two were side by side with Woodward coming across the line first just inches in front of Legault for the win. Kevin Fetterly, Jr. barely hung on for third with Roch Aubin and Ron Sharlow rounding out the top five.
In the action packed Enduro class, Ernie Cree who had an impressive run on Wednesday night took home the win by inches at the finish line. Al Jacobs finished second with Steve Bushey holding on to take third as Mark David and Jerry Jock rounded out the top five.
Next week it will be Kanienkahaka Fuels Night at the Speedway featuring a full card of racing for all classes. It will be Bandit autograph night at the speedway with the kids getting a chance to pick up an autograph from their favorite Bandit division driver during the intermission. The show will also feature a $100.00 to win Enduro feature as well.
