BILLY "THE KID" KING ROARS TO MR. RADIATOR SERIES VICTORY AT FROGTOWN

Hogansburg, NY - Billy "the Kid" King lead from start to finish to win the Frogtown stop on the Mr. Radiator Pro Stock/Late Model Series. The Akwesasne star was challenged a number of times throughout the race by Darryl Steele and Marc Therrien but was able to hold them off for the victory.

Twenty-one cars were called to the starting grid for the event. The race was picked up in lap #11 because the rains came last week and washed out the rest of the event. Darryl Steele held off Marc Therrien for second as Marc had to settle for third. Current points leader in the series, Eric Gauvreau, finished fourth with Randy Earl rounding out the top five.

Our thanks goes out to the good people at Mr. Radiator, Akwesasne Fuels and series director Brian Mulligan for putting on such a great show.

In the Semi Pro feature from 6/30/01, it was popular Pete Backus who took an important victory home. Pete, who going into the event was third in points just behind Jeff Marshall and Greg Snyder, realized how important a win could be at this point in the season. Kevin Mayville and Paul Czyz started on the pole with Mayville getting the early lead. Backus who started 4th quickly began his run to the front and took the lead on lap #6 from a determined Steve Brand. Greg Snyder and Jeff Marshall began their charge to the front and tried all they could to get by Backus but Pete had the right setup and held his ground to bring home the win. Greg Snyder finished second with Jeff Marshall, John Brainard and Kevin Mayville rounding out the top five.

In the Bandit feature from 6/30/01, it was Mark Radbourne taking home the win fighting off repeated challenges from Cornwall, Ontario's hot shoe Kurtis McPhee for the victory. Radbourne grabbed the lead from his outside front row starting position and went on for the victory. Kurtis McPhee was second with Ron Sharlow, Kevin Fetterly, Jr. and Mike Jolicoeur rounding out the top five.

Our thanks goes out to 6/30/01 sponsor Akwesasne Fuels and to all of their people for their support.

After the rained out events from 6/30/01 were completed, it was time to begin the show for 7/7/01 sponsored by first time sponsor Haggetts Excavating.

The Haggetts Excavating 25 for the 358 DIRT Modifieds proved to be a test of endurance as there were many cautions in the event that was filled with minor skirmishes. Jimmy Lazore and Sandy Roberts started on the pole of the event with Roberts grabbing the lead only to loose it to young star Chris Jones on lap six.

Doug Fuller who started 4th in the field grabbed the lead from Jones on lap #6 and was determined to stay there for good. Leon Gonyo who started 7th in the field and last week feature winner Jeff Sykes who started 18th in the field were on the move. Larry Welling, Jr. of Fine, New York also joined the hunt to get by Fuller.

Sykes got by Gonyo for second in lap #14 which brought the crowd to their feet anticipating the battle to follow between the two Edwards, New York's competitors. But Gonyo was able to make a slick move on Sykes on lap #19 and retake second place. Gonyo tried everything he could to get by Fuller but the long time veteran held off Gonyo for the win. Leon had to settle for second with Jeff Sykes third, Larry Welling, Jr. fourth and Joel Doiron getting up for fifth. It was Fuller's first win ever at Frogtown and his first 358 Modified Feature in two years. Congratulations Doug!

In the Haggetts Excavating 20 lap main event for the Pro Stocks, Marc Therrien started on the pole and never really looked back to take the victory. A determined Mitchell Jock who was having one of his best runs in a while came from his 4th starting position to mount a charge for second.

In the early stages of the race, Therrien battled with early race leader Joey Ladouceur who met with misfortune on lap #12 with a slower car that brought out the caution. Therrien grabbed the lead on the restart with Mitchell Jock close behind but Therrien began to expand his lead on Jock the rest of the race and cruised home for the victory. Mitchell settled for second with Scott Kocher, Louie Jackson and Joey Ladouceur rounding out the top five.

In the Semi Pro featue, Steve Brand brought home a big win after getting the lead from Jamie Martin on lap #8 of the event. Martin who took the lead from Kevin Mayville on lap #2 looked like he might be headed for a long awaited feature win at the speedway but Brand worked hard to get by the determined 3D of Martin and went on for the win. Pete Backus finished third with Jeff Marshall and Robert Dean rounding out the top five.

In the Haggetts Excavating 10 lap feature for the Bandit trucks and cars, 27 cars and trucks started the event with Chris Tremblay of Cornwall, Ontario bringing home the victory by fending off repeated challenges from popular Bruno Richard of Gatineau, Quebec for the victory. Richard finished second with Kevin Fetterly, Jr., Kurtis McPhee and Ronnie Tyo rounding out the top five of what was THE MOST exciting and best race of the evening. Great show Bandits!

In the Enduro feature, it was Ricky Thompson squeezing out a victory over early race leader Ryan Phillips for the victory. Ronnie Thompson, Ernie Cree and Owen White rounded out the top five.

Next week it will be Race World and Holcomb's Auto Service, Inc. night at the speedway. These are two new sponsors to the speedway that will have plenty to offer the fans when they come through the gate next week including the Race World racing trailer that will offer NASCAR die cast collectables and T-Shirts for the fans to look at and purchase.

Our thanks going out to the staff and Management at Haggetts Excavating for sponsoring one of the best shows of the season at Frogtown.
