PIERRE DAGENAIS, ERIC GAUVREAU, GREG SNYDER, TREVOR MCPHEE
AND OWEN WHITE TAKE FROGTOWN TOP HONORS
Hogansburg, NY - Pierre Dagenais of Gatineau, Quebec wasted no time at all coming from his 15th starting position to grab the lead and keep it in the Mort Backus & Sons 25 for the 358 Modifieds last Saturday night at Frogtown.
Jim Lazore and Mike Reyelle lead the cars around for the start of the event with Lazore grabbing the early lead. Leon Gonyo of West Chazy, New York took the lead from Lazore on lap #5 with Jim Ryan, Pierre Dagenais, Mike Perrotte and Dave Heaslip trying to run him down. Dagenais grabbed the lead from Gonyo on lap ten and never looked back for the rest of the race, but fans seemed to be pre-occupied with the race going on for second and third between the #1 and #2 drivers in points, Mike Perrotte and Dave Heaslip. With Perrotte finishing second and Heaslip third. Only 26 points separate the two for the title going into next weeks Coca-Cola Seaway Showdown 50 lap event. Leon Gonyo finished 4th with Jim Ryan getting up for 5th.
After a post race inspection was done, two cars were found to be in violation of rule #9 section 5 found on page 40 of the DIRT rulebook. One decision was finalized at the track with the driver being fined both points and money for the violation at the promoters discretion. The other violation is still under review by track officials after the driver elected to appeal the decision.
In the DIRT Pro Stock division, Eric Gauvreau of Cantley, Quebec took the lead from Jody Swamp on lap two of the event and was able to fight off a very determined Mitchell Jock to take home the win. Jock finished in second with a hard charging Mark Therrien getting up for third. Billy "the Kid" King and Mike Allen rounded out the top five.
In the always exciting Semi-Pro division, Tim Allen and Greg Snyder came off the #4 turn on the last lap side by side with Snyder winning the event by a bumper. Tim Allen ran a fabulous race to finish second after leading the majority of the race. Andy Heywood, Jamie Martin and Steven Brand rounded out the top five.
Trevor McPhee out distance Curtis McPhee to bring home the win in the Bandit class. Rosco Garreau, Kevin Fetterly, Jr. and Brian Loeb rounded out the top five.
In the Enduro Class, Owen White continued his winning ways by fighting off a hard charging Ryan Phillips. Chad White, Tim Herne and Richard Pruner rounded out the top five.
Next week it will be the Coca Cola Seaway Showdown, a 50 lap event for the 358 DIRT Modifieds with a large field of cars expected.
A special thanks for a great evening of racing going out to Mort Backus & Sons, sponsors of Saturday night's racing action.
