DAN DOUVILLE TAKE FIRST WIN EVER AT FROGTOWN
Hogansburg, NY - Dan Douville of Northfield, New Hampshire took home his first win ever at Frogtown International Speedway in the 358 modified class on Lazore's Construction night.
Douville who halls 5 1/2 hours each week to compete at the speedway drove a very patient race not using up his tires until the last few laps of the race and made it pay off.
Paul Pekkenon of Brockville, Ontario grabbed the early lead only to loose it to Brian McDonald of Cornwall, Ontario on lap #2.
McDonald held on until lap #13 when Kevin Fetterly grabbed the lead on a restart. Back through the pack, Jeff Sykes who was involved in a 2nd lap incident was passing cars as if they were standing still and making a big run for the lead. At the same time, Douville started to mount his charge.
The crowd was on its feet as time was running out for Fetterly as the crowd began to cheer on the local star but the caution came out on lap 20 and that was the last thing Kevin wanted to see.
On the ensuing restart coming out of turn 2, Douville grabbed the lead and held off a last lap charge from Jeff Sykes. Kevin Fetterly, Brian McDonald and Dave Heaslip rounded out the top five.
In the Pro Stock division, Mark Therrien held off Billy "The Kid" King's numerous attempts to take the lead for his first win of the season at Frogtown. King finished in second while Jody Swamp, Steve Francis and Mike Allen rounded out the top five.
In the action packed Semi Pro division, Duane Brainard won his third feature in a row.
A terrible first lap accident involving four cars including a violent flip by Paul Ellis brought out the first of four cautions. Ellis was not injured in the accident.
Mike Tremblay grabbed the lead only to go to the pits with mechanical problems on lap 4.
Steve Brand grabbed the lead on lap 6 and held on until Brainard took over on lap 9 and held on for the win. Steven Brand, made a last lap dash and finished second as Mark Smoke, Scott Sharpe and Jamie Martin rounded out the top five.
In the four cylinder car and truck feature go, Casey Swamp went for a roll over in his #44 truck that brought out the caution in the early going. Swamp emerged from the wreck and was ok.
Leo and Curtis McPhee staged a tremendous battle on the front end with Mark Radbourne and Kevin Fetterly, Jr. lurking in the wings.
Curtis McPhee held off all challengers for the win Fetterly finished second with Leo McPhee, Mark Radbourne and Chris Tremblay rounding out the top five.
Next Saturday night it will be Old Timers night sponsored by Wolf Clan Truck Stop. The Mid State Antique Stock Car Club will be in town for their annual visit plus a regular card of racing and Quebec residents being admitted to the grandstand for half price. Frogtown Speedway is located just off Route 37, on Frogtown Road in Hogansburg, just north of Massena, New York.
