BILL "MOON" MULLIN TAKES FROGTOWN MEMORIAL CUP 50

HOGANSBURG, NY - Bill "Moon" Mullin of Iroquois, ONT captured the Akwesasne Fuels Memorial Cup 50 for Modifieds Saturday night at the Frogtown Speedway, leading all 50 laps and holding off the late race challenges of Plattsburgh's Mike Perrotte, the previous week's winner. Darryl Steele of Renfrew, ONT won the Pro Stocks, Marty Jock of Hogansburg won the Semi-Pro, Mitch Jock of Cornwall, ONT won the 4-Cylinder Bandits and Jody Swamp of Hogansburg won the 50-lap "Slick Track" Enduro.

This was Mullin's first win at Frogtown in nearly a year and a half. While Mullin led the entire event, Perrotte was never more than two or three car lengths behind the leader. A great four-way battle for third spot throughout the final laps of the race found Brian McDonald of Conrwall, ONT holding off all challengers for the position. Pierre Dagenais crossed the finish line fourth but was docked two positions for jumping on a restart, elevating Peter Mantha, Jr. of Gatineau, QUE to fourth and Kevin Fetterly of Massena to fifth spot.

Darryl Steele of Renfrew, ONT won a very competitive Pro Stock feature, with Sid Harmer of Governeur, NY and Hogansburg's Jody Swamp finish a close second and third. Mike Allen of Norwood was nipping at Swamp's heels but had to settle for fourth, while Massena's Benny Gladding finished fifth. Marty Jock of Hogansburg captured the caution-plagued Semi-Pro division feature, holding off Cornwall's Jody Beckstead in the final laps. Duane Brainard of Massena recovered from several spins on the slick track surface to finish third.

Mitch Jock of Cornwall, ONT made it two for three in the 4-Cylinder Bandits, holding off Cornwall racers Robin Laframboise and Ron Giroux. Last week's winner, Kurtis McPhee finished fourth with Richard Brunelle in his first outing capturing fifth. Casey Swamp was the winner in the Bandit Trucks.

Jody Swamp of Hogansburg won the 50-lap "Slick Track Enduro," beating out Hogansburg's Garrett White by just a few car lengths. Mike Harris of Norwood finished third, with Kevin Mayville of Fort Covington and Ryan Phillips of Hogansburg completing the top five. Twenty-eight cars entered the event.

Next Saturday, June 5th, residents of Franklin, Clinton and Essex Counties with ID are admitted to the grandstands at half-price; as always, kids 12 and under are free. Lazore's Construction presents a full program featuring the Modifieds, as well as a Model Car Contest and a Big Truck Race during intermission. Racing starts at 7:30 PM.
