ALAN RUDALAVAGE, CRAIG TERRELL, ALLEN COY, AND DICK VAUTER WIN AT PENN

CAN

(Susquehanna, Pa.) Alan Rudalavage came home the winner of the 30

lap Pine Line Auto Sales sponsored Modified feature last Friday night at

the Penn Can Speedway. It was Alan's first feature win of the 2002

season. Craig Terrell Won his second consecutive Sportsman feature and

seventh overall on the season, while Allen Coy also won his seventh Late

Model feature of the season. Dick Vauter earned his first win of the

season in Super Stock action. The Pure Stock feature was rained out and

will be made up on this Friday night.

Alan Shiffler and Brian Franko paced the Modified feature to the

green flag, but it was Alan Rudalavage who took control of the event as

he made the move from fourth starting position to take over the lead

aboard his Pennstar Bank sponsored #145. George Kostelansky also made a

big move in the early stages as he advanced to second and began

pressuring Rudalavage for the top spot. A couple of caution flags saw

Kostelansky grab the lead off a restart and lead a few laps before Alan

was able to turn the tide and do the same on a subsequent restart to

re-establish himself as the race leader. A long green flag run saw a

great battle for the lead shape up between Rudalavage and Kostelansky.

The two veteran drivers spent many laps battling for the top

spot, often running side by side as they battled for the top spot. There was

plenty of hard racing between the two, but it was good, clean hard

racing, as the two never touched despite racing for many laps in close

quarters as they fought for the lead. Kostelansky was able to retake

the lead once again and opened up a bit of an advantage as he and

Rudalavage raced in lapped traffic. It was not to be for Kostelansky,

however, as he lost oil pressure with just two laps remaining and had to

retire from the event. With Kostelansky no longer in the mix, Alan

cruised to victory by a comfortable margin over Carl Nagel, who turned

in his best drive of the season to finish second. Tom McGurrin finished

third while Mike Colsten's fourth place finish staked him to a ten point

lead over Brian Weaver in the chase for the championship with two races

left in the point season. Jeff Bronson rounded out the top five. Alan

Shiffler, Rick Virkitis, Mike Decker, Brian Weaver, and Brian Franko

Made up the second half of the top ten.

Carl Nagel, Mike Colsten, and Alan Rudalavage were heat race

winners. Sean Collins won the consolation event.

Craig Terrell picked up his second consecutive win in the Sportsman

feature. It was the seventh win of the season for Terrell, who barring

a major misfortune is on track to be crowned Penn Can's first Sportsman

division champion. Terrell took the green flag in the eight position

but made his way quickly to the front, taking control of the event on a lap

six restart when he drove around Brian Decker to put his Klinger's

Kawasaki sponsored #78 into the lead. Terrell, who chose to run the

team's older Troyer car over their new Bicknell once again, went on to

lead the remainder of the event to pick up the win. Brian Decker

finished second ahead of teenager Brett tonkin, who had a nice run

aboard his Wash Me Car Wash sponsored entry. Dan Vauter finished fourth with

Ken Titus picking up a top five finish as well. Gary Gallerie, Mike

Marold Jr., Garth Tonkin Jr., Rick Whitney, and Alex Konopka were sixth

through tenth respectively.

Dan Vauter, Brett Tonkin, and Craig Terrell won Sportsman

preliminary events.

Just as Terrell did in the Sportsman ranks, Allen Coy picked up his

seventh Penn Can win of the season in the Late Model division. It was

also Coy's second consecutive win at Penn Can. While he held on for

victory, Coy had his hands full as he was fighting a very tight race car

as he was unable to hold the car on the bottom groove and was forced to

work the high side of the speedway. This made for an interesting race

as Jamie Griffiths made several attempts to slip past Coy on the low side,

but could not quite complete the pass. Dave Zona worked past Griffiths

in the closing stages of the event, but simply ran out of laps before he

was able to make a run at Coy. The win gives Coy an 18 point advantage

over Zona going into the Late Model division's final point race of the

season on September 6th. Behind Coy and Zona, Jamie Griffiths finished

third trailed by Randall Paxton and early race leader Jason Carmen.

Newcomer James Cornell Jr. finished sixth in only his second start of

The season ahead of Keith Mudge, Joe Damiano, Brent Dyer, and Jim O'Hara.

Rookie Steve Tourje and Jason Carmen split the two Late Model heat

races.

Longtime Super Stock campaigner and patriarch of the racing Vauter

family Dick Vauter made his first visit to victory lane of the season on

Friday night as he picked up the win in the 20 lap Super Stock feature.

Vauter started on the pole and led every lap of the feature aboard his

Community Bank sponsored #14. Vauter did survive a scare when he and

Jamie Shea got together while racing for the lead just prior to the

halfway point of the event. Dick was able to maintain control and

continue on as the leader while Shea was not as fortunate as he spun to

the infield, collecting several cars. This put Dwayne Robbins in the

second position and Dwayne held that spot the remainder of the way.

Shea recovered from his spin to finish third while Brett Spoor and Paul

Rooney completed the top five. Joe Cabets, Craig Trella, Chris Hunsinger,

Tracy Gregory, and Jim Wynn completed the top ten. Gregory slipped from third

to ninth when he suffered a flat tire on the final lap of the event.

Dick Vauter and Chris Piasecki won the Super Stock heat races.

With the Pure Stock feature pulling onto the track, the rains that

had began falling during the Modified feature began to pick up in

intensity. After running several laps behind the Pine Line Auto Sales

Pace Truck, the majority of the drivers gave the thumbs down indicating

that the track was too wet to race on, so the cars wee sent to the pits.

The rained-out Pure Stock feature will be the first event on next week's

card. The line-up for the rained out feature has already been set and

there will be no additions as only the cars present on Friday night will

be eligible to take part in this feature.

Racing continues this Friday night at the Penn Can Speedway. The

Modifieds will take center stage with the running of the Tim Olenski

Memorial, run in honor of the late Tim Olenski. The winner of the Tim

Olenski Memorial will earn a guaranteed starting spot in the All Star

Race during the Victoria 200 at Fulton. The Late Models will be in

action in an American Race Tires Championship Series event. The Pure

Stocks will be making up this week's rained out feature as well as a

complete regular program. The Sportsman and Super Stock divisions will

see action in regular shows. Racing gets underway at 7:15 PM.
