PETE BICKNELL, STEWART FRIESEN, DAVE WILLIAMS, DAVE NICHOLS,AND CORY SAWYER CAPTURED THE WINS

ON WLVL NIGHT AT RANSOMVILLE SPEEDWAY

Pete Bicknell took top honors in his Bicknell chassis last Friday night aboard the Mighty Taco 358 Modified thirty lap feature event. Sponsored by WLVL 1340, Bicknell collected his third of the season after taking the lead away from Todd Gordon on lap seventeen.

Rick Hoctor and Russ Zimmerman brought the field down for the initial green flag with Hoctor taking the top position. Zimmerman, Mark Sylvies, Jason Boyle, and Todd Gordon rounded out the top five. Pete Bicknell, Vic Coffey, and Danny Johnson were all stuck deep in the pack as the caution flew for Greg Panunte who made contact with the turn one guardrail. The restart found Hoctor maintain the top spot as Gordon made his way to second followed by Boyle, Brian Stevens, and Ricky Richner. Sylvie ssuffered rear-end suspension problems and slowed in the moat on lap 5.

The restart found Hoctor choosingthe outside lane which would prove to be a bad decision as Gordon took over the top spot. His run up front would be short lived as Mr Smallblock-PeteBicknell-charged his way to the front and took the lead on lap seventeen- never looking back. A great race for second took place between Gordon, Coffey, and Johnson for several go-rounds with Coffey claiming the spot at the checkered. Gordon, Richner, and Vinson rounded out the top five. Johnson suffered a broken suspension on the final circuit dropping him back several spots. Heat winners were Sylvies and Panunte.

The DIRT Sportsman had a season high twenty-three competitors on hand for the twenty-five lap feature event. Stewart Friesen found the quick way around the ½ mile oval as he took the lead away from Danny Lacey on lap four and never looked back enroute to his third win of the season.

Lacey led the field to the green and took the top spot over John Hagerman, Tony Purgarich, Friesen, and Sean Kott. Friesen quickly moved to the front as he took over second on lap three and then the lead on the fourth circuit. The race was now on for the second position as Dave Just, Jeff McGinnis, and R andy Chrysler put on a spectacular show for the fans. Just found his good run come to an early end as he developed break problems just past half way. Chrysler was able to take over the runner up position but found Friesen to have a substantial lead. Freisen took the checkered followed by Chrysler, McGinnis, Rob Winters, and Wayne Conn. Heat winners were Lacey and Friesen.

Dave Williams of the Tuscarora Nation topped the field aboard the twenty lap Ransomville NAPA Pro Stock feature event. Scoring his second of the season, Williams took the lead at the drop of the green aboard his Mighty Taco sponsored #9J and held off persistent challenges from Jeff Martin. Martin was able to hold onto second followed by Pete Stefanski, Dave Schulz, and Dan Shoop. Points leader Scott Kerwin had to push started at the beginning of the feature and therefore was forced to start tail. Kerwin was able to make up much of the ground as he came home in sixth spot. Only one caution slowed the feature go as the radiator in the Mike Martin machine let go on lap 2. Heat winners were Martin and Mike Williams.

The Midstate Vintage Club made a guest appearance last Friday with the following drivers gracing victory lane: Brad Litzenburger won the 50’s Division, Doc Smith captured the checkered in the 60’s Division, and Gary Byerly won the 70’s Division.

Dave Nichols took the lead in the second Fish’s Automotive Streetstock feature at the drop of the green and led the entire distance enroute to his second win of the season. Matt Gillingham and Roger Israel were able to close the gap between themselves and the leader as time expired in the fifteen lap affair. Gillingham, Israel, Bobby Clare, and Jerry Condren rounded out the top five. Heat winners Derek Smith, Jared Israel, and Nichols.

It was survival of the fittest…or simply lady luck…aboard the second Fishs Automotive Streetstock feature. After just 4 laps of racing, a total of 4 cautions had been thrown and some 8 cars found themselves pitside. When the checkered finally fell it was Cory Sawyer taking his fifth win of the season after a great side by side battle with Joe Rickard. Rickard came home second followed by Digger Lester, John Dietz, and Ben Hornquist.
