RICHNER, FRIESEN, MCCOY, ZIMMERMAN, AND WEBSTER CAPTURE FEATURE WINS AT RANSOMVILLE

RANSOMVILLE, June 8th, 2001…It was a great night for racing last Friday at the big "R" as Thomson Terminals, Sweeteners Plus, and Labatts presented a full card of racing with a 4 cyl demolition derby.

Ricky Richner of Niagara Falls, NY took top honors last Friday night aboard the Mighty Taco 358 Modified 40 lap feature event. Piloting his #26 Jetport Lounge, Lafayette Machine, Lazy Lakes sponsored mount, Richner took the lead at the drop of the green and was never seriously challenged as he led the entire event which went caution free.

Vic Coffey came through traffic aboard his Sweeteners Plus sponsored #32 in fine fashion and simply had time run out as he made it to second and was beginning to reel in Richner when the caution flew. Danny Johnson rallied to a third place finish and became the points leader while Don Spatarico, and Alan Johnson rounded out the top five. Spatarico ran second for the first half of the event while Alan Johnson was making a special appearance. Heat winners were Todd Burley and Robbie Krull.

The Queenston-Lewiston Duty Free Sportsman 20 lap feature event was won by Stewart Friesen. Friesen took the lead away from Wayne McKie with a hand full of laps remaining and quickly pulled away to a comfortable lead. It was Friesen's first win of the season aboard his #10A machine sponsored by Raceway Speed and Performance and Eds Garage. McKie held on for second followed by Don Martin, Tony Purgarich, and Jeff McGinnis. Heat winners were Randy Chrysler, Jeff McGinnis, and McKie.

Pat McCoy captured the 20 lap NAPA Prostock feature event piloting the John Koeppen owned machine. McCoy took the lead away from Dan Mayer early in the event and held off a late race challenge from Steve Devos and Joe Stefanski. Devos finished in the second position followed by Stefanski, Dave Schulz, and Steve Miller. Heat winners were Miller, McCoy, and Devos.

The Fish's Automotive Twin Streetstock features were won by Randy Zimmerman and Dave Webster. Zimmerman took the lead away from Jerry Condren just past the half way point and quickly distanced himself for the field enroute to his first ever feature win. Roger Israel and Mark Boyer rounded out the top five.

It was Webster's first win of the season aboard his #1 machine as he capture the second Streetstock feature. Wayne Close and Alex Morris rounded out the top three. Heat winners were Dan Baughman, Mark Boyer, and Randy Zimmerman.

Pit notes; Making their first starts at Ransomville for the 2001 season were Wayne Conn, Dave Kubiniek, Chuck Chapman, Phil Vigneri, Scott Haris, Jim Whitefield, James Strassburg, Scott Kerwin, Don Jenks, Don Barnes, Don Rappleyea, Jay Clause, and Matt Gillingham. Next week finds the ever popular roll-over contest along with a full card of racing sponsored by D. H. Cloy and Son. Just in…Danny Johnson will be piloting a Southern Ontario Sprint on June 29th at Ransomville Speedway.
