"BREW-MASTER" McCREADIE TOP THE FIELD AT BREWERTON SPEEDWAY

BREWERTON, N.Y.. 8/1/97. .TEAM Services Night at the Brewerton Speedway saw defending

track champions Bob McCreadie, Sean Lias and Troy Van Allen chalk up victories

in the modified, IMCA and dwarf divisions while Ed Granoski outdistanced the

four cylinder field.

Threatening weather failed to hamper the field or the fans as the

management held on to host yet another great night of racing action.

In the featured modified event the 35 lapper saw a shootout by Bob

McCreadie and Tim Fuller do battle through the closing stages. Small block

runner Dana Wagner took the early lead while McCreadie made one of his patented

charges. McCreadie started in 14th and by the fifth lap he had worked his way to third. Wagner's run ended when

he spun in a flurry of steam on the ninth lap.

McCreadie inherited the lead and on the ninth lap restart it was

McCreadie, Roger Phelps, Fuller, Ray Bliss and Jimmy Phelps holding down the

top five spots. Fuller raced to second place on the eleventh lap as he powered

past Roger Phelps. The field bunched up once again on the 14th lap when Bobby Varin got out of shape. On the

restart Jimmy Phelps challenged Fuller for second, but wasn't able to pull it

off. As the starter showed the crossed flags it was McCreadie well ahead of

Fuller, Jimmy Phelps, Billy Decker, Roger Phelps, Scott Prentice, Pat Ward and Tim McCreadie.

It became a two-car battle at the front with McCreadie and Fuller pulling

away. Decker challenged, but couldn't keep pace with the leaders. With two

laps to go Donnie Wetmore brought out the yellow with a flat tire.

Bob McCreadie had it all together and coasted to his third win of the

season to reverse the tables on the previous week. Tim Fuller was runner up

followed by Billy Decker, Joe Plazek and Pat Ward.

The IMCA main event saw Ron O'Neil and Les Hubbard start in the front row.

It was O'Neil with the advantage. In the early stages Kevin Auyer was in

contention, but on the eighth lap spun and was t-boned by Rob Keller to bring

out the yellow. On the restart it was O'Neil followed by Glen Erwin, Sean Lias, Eddie O'Neil and Dick

Weiland. O'Neil held the lead, but on the seventeenth lap Sean Lias powered

his machine off the fourth turn to take over at the point. He drove to his

second win of the year while it was a photo finish for second with Tom Horning, who had started last, edging

Ron O'Neil. Les Hubbard and Eddie O'Neil rounded out the top five.

In the four cylinder it was another exciting event as Ed Granoski and Gary

Morrisette doing battle through the majority of the night. Morrisette took the

lead in moving from eighth to first on the initial lap. However, a tangle

involving Granoski, Jim Olin and Bill Klinkowsky brought out the yellow. On the restart Morrisette pulled

away. At the halfway point if was Morrisette while Granoski had moved back to

second. Granoski finally took over on the backstretch. He easily outdistanced

Morrisette while Ken Klinkowsky was third while Olin and George Kirchoff completed the top five.

It was photo finish time in the dwarf division as Troy Van Allen made a

move on the last lap to eke out a victory over Frank Doll Jr. Ed Bell was the

early lead and then Greg Furlong powered down low on the third lap to take

over. Furlong pulled away, but on the 13th lap he broke and came to a stop in the third turn. Meanwhile,

runner up C.J. Crawford spun in turn two. Suddenly, Frank Doll was in front. He

held on until the final lap when Van Allen made the move.

Pit Stops-In the IMCA division Dane Keller claimed Sean Lias motor...Mod

heats won by Roger Phelps, Billy Decker and Jimmy Phelps. Tom Horning and Ron

O'Neil won the IMCA qualifiers. Greg Furlong and Jim Grey won the dwarf
