ALAN JOHNSON TAKES TOP HONORS IN RANSOMVILLE MODIFIED FEATURE

by...Tana Robinson

Alan Johnson of Rochester, NY collected his third feature at the big "R" last Friday night aboard the Transaction Group #14J. Alan took the lead away from Don Martin on lap 25 and was never headed as he went on for the win.

Rick Bitterman and Don Spatarico shared the front row for the 35 lap feature start. Spatarico took the early lead coming out of turn 2 followed by Bitterman, Russ Zimmeman, Jay Clause and Joe Kubiniec. The green was short lived as contact between Bitterman and Zimmerman brought the first caution at the end of lap 1.

Spatarico continued to lead on the restart followed by Martin, Clause, Fred Cade and George Jowdy. Lap 3 found the yellow flag flying once again this time for Zimmerman who lost the handle in turn 1.

Spatarico set the pace for the restart with Martin running a strong second. Martin challanged for the lead and took the top spot, quickly putting alot of distance between himself and Spatarico in second. Debris on the track brought out the caution on lap 17. Danny Johnson headed pitside with a tire going down.

On the restart, Martin continued to show the way as Jay Clause slowed on the front stretch with mechanical problems. Alan Johnson had worked his way through traffic and took to the highside around Spatarico for second. He quickly went to work reeling in Martin as the caution flew for John Cornwall who spun in turn 4.

This put Johnson on Martin's bumper for the restart followed by Spatarico, Cade and Pete Bicknell. Johnson took to the highside looking for racing room as Bicknell made his way to third. On lap 25, Johnson was able to make his way around Martin for the lead with Bicknell in tow for second. Martin ran third while Brian Stevens and Cade rounded out the top five. In the late stages on the event, Danny Johnson worked his way through the pack and into fourth.

At the checkered it was Alan Johnson in for his third of the season followed by Pete Bicknell, Don Martin, Danny Johnson and Brian Stevens.

Todd Burley's racing team won the pit-crew on contest with a time of 40.88 seconds.
