DANNY JOHNSON CLAIMS FEATURE WIN #6

by...Tana Robinson

Danny Johnson of Rochester, NY collected his sixth victory of the season at the big "R" last Friday night. Johnson took control from Tim Murdoch around lap 26 and never looked back as he collected another win.

Ricky Richner and Jay Clause sat on the front row for the feature start with Richner taking the lead. Tim Murdoch, driving the John Cornwall #25, took over the top spot coming out of turn 2. Richner, Clause, Fred Cade and Scott Wood rounded out the top five. Wood made his way into third by lap 3 as Danny Johnson broke into the top five. Don Spatarico retired pitside on lap 6 with mechanical woes.

Danny continued to pick his way to the front as Murdoch was checking out on the field. Wood and Johnson were running second and third while Cade and Vic Coffey rounded out the top five.

As the laps clicked off, Wood and Johnson began to reel in Murdoch. The two caught up to him resulting in a three car battle for the top spot. Johnson was able to get around Wood and pressure Murdoch for the lead. Murdoch held strong, while Johnson tried the highside and lowside looking for racing room. As these two battled for the lead for several circuits, Wood sat there in third looking to make a bid. In the closing laps, Johnson was able to slingshot by Murdoch and into the lead. Murdoch had his hands full of Wood and Alan Johnson who had worked his way through traffic. Brian Stevens took over fifth from Vic Coffey.

In the final laps, Danny Johnson continued to show the way while Alan made a bid for the runner up spot. Alan was able to take that position as time ran out during the 35 lap event.

At the checkered it was Danny Johnson collecting win #6 followed by Alan Johnson, Scott Wood, Tim Murdoch and Brian Stevens.
