CHECKERS WAVE FOR HEASLIP, MORIN, SWAMP AND MARCOUX AT FROGTOWN SPEEDWAY
HOGANSBURG, NY...Dave "The Slip" Heaslip of Smiths Falls, Ontario won his third feature of the season at Frogtown International Speedway leading all 25 laps of the Mohawk Bingo Palace sponsored event.
Heaslip gained the pole position after winning his heat race. Sandy Roberts, the other heat winner, started on the outside. Bill Cook took over second spot by the first lap and followed Heaslip through 3 cautions and 19 laps. Kyle Jacobs had worked his way up from 13th to take over second on lap 20. Jacobs made several attempts to get by Heaslip but he was dialed in to the dry, fast track. Brian McDonald and Dan Robinson got together causing the fifth caution of the evening on lap 24. Jacobs and Healsip were side by side on the one lap dash to the checkers, with Heaslip taking the win over Jacobs by inches. Bill Cook maintained third, Mike Perrotte moved up from 19th to finish
fourth and Ovide Doiron gained one position to end fifth.
Ron Morin also took his third feature win in the late model feature over a 19 car field. Cliff Adams started on the pole but was quickly overtaken by Rick Oakes. Morin jumped up two positions to take over the lead on a lap 2 caution and restart. Steve Francis moved up from 10th starting position to take over second on that same restart. Dave Bisonnette moved up from ninth to finish third.
Jody Swamp triumphed over a 10 car Novice field to take the feature win. He moved up five positions on the first lap to take the lead. Jackson held on to second through lap 7 when he spun to the inside of turn 2 and Joel Herne took over. Steve Backus gained 4 positions for a third place finish.
Simon Marcoux broke the winning streak of Lee Ladoceur in the Rookie division. Marcoux took over the lead by the first lap. Ladoceur was charging hard to catch Marcoux but stalled out on lap 3 causing the only caution of the event. Robert Dicare had taken over second but lost it again to Ladoceur on lap 5.
Three heats of cars and trucks took to the track at intermission for the backwards race. The vehicles, in groups of two, were timed one lap around the track. Late Model driver Dave Bisonnette won the event. Fans were treated to a fireworks show, delayed from last week, at the end of the race.
